What We Read and Recommend In April 2013

FV Monthly Recs

Amy’s Recommendations

I have only one recommendation this month but in this instance quality outweighs quantity and anyone who enjoys m/m romance should not miss out on this incredible series.

Cut & Run Series by Abigail Roux ** [AMZBNSK]
Abigail Roux derailed my life this month for an entire week as I devoured the Cut & Run series.  Both Samantha and Mandi from Smexybooks have pimped these books out for years as well as strongly (“YOU NEED TO READ!”) recommended that I read about the legendary FBI Agents, Ty Grady & Zane Garrett.  Now that I have completed my first Ty & Zane marathon, I can confirm, they have ruined, RUINED me for other men!  You will fall in love with both men for many reasons but ultimately my heart pulls for Zane.  Jen also read the series this month and we have formed a support system (wine therapy) together while we wait for next year’s release.  We are in total denial that the series most likely will end at book nine and we continue to search for other authors that have created a series and partnership half as compelling and emotionally driven as Ty & Zane’s journey.  Check out Samantha and Angela’s joint review of the new release, Touch & Geaux.  This quote kind of says it all for me:

“Who are you, Ty?”

Ty smiled against his cheek. “I was an assassin,” he whispered. “I’m a Marine. I’m the man who doesn’t miss. And I’m yours.”

Zane bit his lip on a smile.

“Who are you, Zane?”

Zane cocked his head. “I’m an artist. I’m a geek.” He felt Ty smile. “I am a badass motherfucker on a motorcycle.”

Ty began to laugh.

Zane dipped his head until they were staring into each other’s eyes. “And I’m yours.”

Jen’s Recommendations

I buried myself in m/m land this month and I am having a hard time coming back out.  I had a whole line up of recommendations in my head until Amy showed me her post.  They all went away after that.  So for further comment, please see Amy’s  recommendations for April and you will have mine as well.

Touch & Geaux by Abigail Roux ** [AMZBNSK]
Gasp…choke…sputter….WHAT THE HECK KIND OF ENDING WAS THAT???

Two words, people.

TEAM ZANE!!

Angela’s Recommendations

Racing for the Sun by Amy Lane ** [AMZBNSK]
This book starts of with an emotional bang and doesn’t stop until the end. Amy Lane is the absolute master at taking broken, traumatized characters and giving them beautiful love stories. Racing for the Sun is the story of two men who meet in the army and follows them as they make a life with and for each other while battling demons from the past. Such a good angsty, emotional read.  Review coming soon.

After Hours by Cara McKenna ** [AMZBNSK]
I’ve been a fan of Cara McKenna, and her alter ego Meg Maguire, for a while. This tale of two mental health workers romancing each other with a bit of dominance and dirty talking really worked for me. Erin and Kelly’s funny banter, their intense love scenes and even Kelly being a gruff, reliable, real life man all came together to be a must read contemporary romance. Jen’s review here.

Touch & Geaux by Abigail Roux ** [AMZBNSK]
Simply my favorite book I’ve read so far this year. This is the  best romantic suspense series in romance. Touch & Geaux shook up our couple and left readers with that feeling of “OMG, did that really just happen?”. I was shocked and stunned and emotionally overwhelmed, but left with a feeling of satisfaction at the end. Seriously guys, if you aren’t reading this series you should be. Joint review with Samantha.

His Risk to Take by Tessa Bailey ** [AMZBNSK]
I read both this one and it’s predecessor, Protecting What’s His, this month and can honestly say I freaking love this new author. She writes the best dirty talking heroes and pairs them with sassy, smart heroines from the wrong side of the tracks. I love that. Both are fast, fun, dirty reads that have me anxiously awaiting this author’s next release. Jen’s review for Protecting What’s His .  Joint review with Sophia for His Risk to Take coming soon.

Samantha’s Recommendations

Any month with a new release in the Cut & Run series is always a good month. All hail Ty & Zane.

Touch & Geaux by Abigail Roux ** [AMZBNSK]
The 7th book in the Cut & Run series and for me it was by far the best one yet. It’s heartbreaking and gut wrenching, and I’ve never loved these two men more or been more obsessed. Roux was very brave with what she did in this book and it totally worked. And then there’s the ending. My god, the ending. After reading this book, make sure you read the Nick & Kelly snippet, Shock & Awe. So hot!

Then after all that, be sure to lose  yourself for hours in The Interrogation Room.

So I guess that’s like 3 recs in one!

After Hours by Cara McKenna ** [AMZBNSK]
I get so excited when a new release from Cara McKenna comes out. I love her books. This one was one great. Sexy, interesting characters, interesting premise, and of course, one big-hot-dominating man.

Thank You For Riding by Meg Maguire ** [AMZBNSK]
Did you know Meg Maguire and Cara McKenna are the same person? Sometimes I have to remind myself. Under each name, she’s written two of my favorite books that are both very different: The Reluctant Nude and Willing Victim. So so good.

I love her writing style as Meg Maguire probably even more than I do as Cara McKenna. Thank You For Riding is a short sweet read filled with fantastic dialogue and a very hot sex scene. If you haven’t read anything by Meg Maguire, I recommend trying this one. Such a perfect example of what she does so well in her books.

Sophia’s Recommendations

I’ve been in a mild reading slump for a little while now. I say mild slump because I’ve read some good books but I haven’t had the enthusiasm for reading I once had. This month was a little better for me. Here is what I recommend from my April shelf:

Wanderlust by Skye Warren ** [AMZBNSK]
I love a book that moves me and makes me think about it when I’m not reading it. This book made me feel all sorts emotions and it pushed my boundaries a little bit. This book won’t be for everyone, it deals with rape and kidnapping. It’s dark and erotic and I really enjoyed it. You can read my review here.

Ransom by Julie Garwood ** [AMZBNSK]
I’m continuing my audio book glom of Julie Garwood books. My latest, greatest listen is Ransom. This book is all the goodness I love in historical romance. Scottish alpha male, smart English heroine, sneaky marriage ceremony, it’s all good. :) I think this is my favorite in the series so far.

His Risk To Take by Tessa Bailey ** [AMZBNSK]
Tessa Bailey brings yet another dirty talking hero and a cute, sexy heroine. I’m really enjoying this new author, I can’t wait for more from her. Joint review with Angela coming soon.

Play With Me by Alisha Rai ** [AMZBNSK]
This was a hot, sexy read. We featured it on What to Read Wednesday and Jen reviewed it here at Fiction Vixen. I love how Alisha Rai is able to write sexy books with a bit of humor.

We had some great reads in April and our May TBR is looking good! What do you recommend from your recent reads?
