Welcome to What-To-Read Wednesday! This week Angela recommends:
Beyond Forever by Kit Rocha
Have you been wondering how Dallas and Lex became the King and Queen of Sector Four? You’re about to find out.
This is probably one of my favorite books this year. I’ve loved the Beyond series since the release of the first book, Beyond Shame. You could say I’m a Beyond fangirl. Beyond Forever is part of the O’Kane For Life spin-off, where fans get to catch up with their favorite characters. Or in this case go back in time to see how Lex and Dallas came to be. It’s not easy, but then no one expected it was. This is Dallas before he was Sector Leader. Just a bootlegger trying to make money and build his operation so big that he would never have to worry about protecting all those he cares about. This is Lex before she was Queen Lex. Lex the thief who decides to break into Dallas’s safe for a credit stick and then when she finds out just how much money is on it, returns and helps steer Dallas in the right direction and helps him build an empire.
I loved this Lex and Dallas. I loved seeing how they began. Dallas being unsure and making mistakes, Lex helping to guide him in the right direction. Lex being in love with a man who is doing his best to stay away. The lust, the back and forth, their protectiveness of each other.
Here’s a few of my favorite quotes:
“Fine.” He pinned her with a glare. “But you shouldn’t have gone out there and done it by yourself. You’re going to give me gray hair woman.”
“Ah, but it’ll be worth it.” Her eyes gleamed. “You’re a rich man already, Dallas. If you let me, I can make you a legend.”
What Dallas wants:
He wanted so many things. Control. Security. So much fucking money that the world could end a half-dozen more times and he’d know in his bones that the people he cared about would still be safe.
And he wanted her. He always wanted her.
Lex being Lex:
“Every king needs a reminder–there are some things you can’t buy or command.” She tugged at his zipper slowly, opening it with a low, unending rasp. “Some things have to be offered. Given.”
Lex being Lex again.
Lex had proven her damn point. She’d proved it in spectacular fashion. As a collective group, all the women who worked in and around the O’Kane compound had simply… not shown up for work.
And life for the O’Kanes had fallen the fuck apart.
Someday, they’d figure out their shit. Or maybe they wouldn’t, and they’d always be like this–hot and cold, push and pull. Fight or flight. Either way, one truth was rooted deep inside her, more intrinsic to her being than her own name.
No matter what came of it, she would always love Dallas O’Kane.
If you love this series as much as I do and want to see how Dallas and Lex fell in love and conquered Sector Four together, you need to go and one-click this one today.
