Juniper’s Princess by Chelsea O’Neal
Daniah is different, she always has been and now her dreams and visions of the future are increasing, she knows her life is changing. She just doesn’t know by how much…
Jaiden is different, but he knows why and he knows his responsibilities. He must find the saviour of his race, the angel human half-breeds who are fighting a war for humanity’s souls. If he can’t convince Daniah she is more than just a little different – she is the princess of their people – they are all going to die.
Unfortunately Daniah doesn’t have many reasons to trust Jadien, especially when he is caught in a web of his own lies.
In a world where half-breed angels walk among us, fighting an evil for our souls, Daniah must find the strength to become the princess we all need.
Chelsea O’Neal has a unique voice in storytelling, threading the characters lives together intricately to give us a complex web of good versus evil in a world descending into chaos…
“Daniah?” Jaiden asks with raised brows as he sits back down.
“Yeah?” I look at him puzzled.
“I thought your name is Dani?” he states confused.
“Umm, well, yeah, I stammer, flushing again. “Daniah is my full first name. I go by Dani,” I finish lamely.
”Daniah is a very charming name.” Jaiden gives me another candid look.
“Thank you. My family all has more normal names, mine is just different. I like it, don’t get me wrong, it is just different, and Dani is easier,” I explain further, repeating myself stupidly.
”I think it suits you perfectly,” he acknowledges, smiling knowingly.
I cant think of a response so I just nod as I finish my pasta and put down my fork. The waitress comes then and asks if we want dessert, we both decline, she takes the plates and leaves the check. Jaiden pays, then we head back to the front of the café.
”Would you care to walk with me a bit?” Jaiden asks me. “It seems to be a pleasant evening.
“That would be great.” Jaiden offers me his arm, I take it and we walk out in to the night. “How long have you been in town?” I ask as we walk.
“Just a little while,” he replies absently. “So Daniah, tell me about your life here in Juniper,” he continues, while reaching down to hold my hand, intertwining his fingers with mine.
I suck in a breath, not expecting his touch. “Oh well, I love it here, I cant imagine a more beautiful place,” I say quickly, then continue, “you know we are the only place in Grazier to have all four seasons. I love the mountains; there is hiking and biking, and many places to just enjoy being outdoors. Sometimes I like to watch a movie with my friends or family. I believe most of my family lives here, not many people move away,” I say then blush, knowing I am rambling. “Sorry, sometimes I ramble when asked a simple question,” I apologize, looking down at the ground.
“You’re just making conversation, don’t be sorry,” he replies as he lifts my hand and kisses the backside, “I think you are adorable.”
I look over at him in shock. He is smiling down at me and even though I can’t see his eyes, I can tell he is focused on me. I feel a flip in my stomach, he feels so close to me and his hand feels so warm in mine.
“My father owns one of the main factories that produces gin,” I tell him, unable to stop talking and trying to ignore my feelings. “I also like to read a good book or cook in my free time,” I finish, releasing a breath.
He chuckles and stops walking, pulling on my hand to bring me closer. “Dani, you seem nervous. Do I make you nervous?” he asks softly.
“Oh, um no, Im not nervous,” I reply feeling dumb, looking anywhere but at Jaiden.
Jaiden releases my hand and slides his arms around my waist. I move my hands so that they rest on his forearms, “Look at me Daniah, you have beautiful eyes.”
I slowly look up into Jaidens face. He has stopped us under a light and I can see his face much better. His green eyes are sparkling and almost seem to burn with an emotion I cant quite place
“I hope I dont make you nervous, because I would like to take you out again,” he murmurs quietly, searching my face, his eyes finally resting on my lips.
I feel my stomach do another flip and my heart starts to beat harder. I look at his eyes and feel myself leaning toward him, wanting to get closer, to be closer. My gaze shifts to his lips and I wonder how they would feel against my own. His lips curve into a smile and I look back up to his eyes quickly, shivering in pleasure when I see his intense gaze.
Q: Romance readers have a lot of choices these days. What makes Juniper’s Princess stand out in the crowd so to speak?
A: I love getting lost in a book. I enjoyed making the world in the book into something that would make people want to find out more. In a place where a normal-ish person could turn out to be a princess and then realize even more people and things are not what they seem, who wouldn’t want to keep reading to see what happens next. I very much enjoy the romance that comes from different situations and what it leads to. So I wrote a story that involves multiple different opportunities, whether they are fully human, part angel or part evil, I wanted them to have a go at true love.
Q: We like to include our favorite quote in our reviews of the books we read. What is your favorite quote from Juniper’s Princess ?
A: My favorite quote from Juniper’s Princess is:
He frowns at me this time then looks as if he is searching for a word. “For humans, is a boyfriend the same as a lover?” he asks and I feel my cheeks flame with his direct question.
If you found out that you were really a princess, and the fate of your people rested on you, what would you do?
