As many of you know I listen to audio books frequently. So far I’ve done 100% of my audio book shopping at Audible.com. If you listen to audio books you know they are usually more expensive than print books and can really put a dent in the book budget. So, seeking out more affordable alternatives is certainly something I’d consider. Recently I discovered an audio book store called Faceless Voice, dedicated solely to Romantic and Erotic fiction in audio format. I have not yet made a purchase, so this will not be a review, but I wanted to share my initial reactions and observations after visiting their site.
When you hit the Faceless Voice homepage you are given a choice: For Guys, or For Girls. I’ve clicked both choices and at a glance I can’t tell a difference other than the color scheme for each. Black for men, white for women. You’ll also see their logo and tagline as well as a sensual graphic. But what caught my eye were the words: “The P0rn Alternative”. I have to admit I had a moment of pause the first time I visited the site. I love erotic romance but I have never thought of it as p0rn or even an alternative to p0rn and when I saw the word p0rn in big red letters I immediately thought, “Yikes! Not what I’m looking for.”
Moving on to the store and products. The store is divided into three categories: GoodGirl, BadGirl and NaughtyGirl. The stories get sexier and more explicit as you go from GoodGirl to BadGirl to NaughtyGirl. There are several nice sized book covers to look at and if you click one this is the format you’ll see:
You’ll see the book title, a descriptor, a brief description, the book cover, and the option to listen to a snippet narrated by a male or a female. (In browsing it appears that all books are available by either a male or female narrator. I really like this option.) The length of the book is also noted. This one says 21:28. I am assuming that means twenty one minutes and twenty eight seconds based on the pricing. Also, I noticed that some books are being offered by chapter and the length is similar to that listed in the graphic above. I do wish this information was more clear though. At the time of this writing, there were 29 books in total in the library.
$3.99 for one
$5.99 for two
$7.99 for three
So, the more you purchase, the better the deal. If you purchase more than three, you get the $7.99 deal for the first three books, then one additional book is $3.99. But two additional books would be and $5.99 and so on. Be sure to browse around because I did notice several free downloads available. There was no “freebie” section in the store but if you keep an eye out you might spot the freebies or you can click the “home” link in the navigation menu and see if there is a featured post listing free downloads.
Format: According to the site information Faceless Voice audio books can be listened to on your computer, mp3 player or smartphone.

This is a list of authors listed in the contributors section of the website. I’m not sure if these authors are exclusive to Faceless Voice and/or audio format or not. I did a quick Google search on a few of the authors with book titles and didn’t find them available anywhere else. So, I assume that these stories are available exclusively at Faceless Voice and only in audio book format. I could be mistaken though because I did not search out every author and book title.
I checked the links in the footer of the website and noticed a forum link. Unfortunately it appears to be a dead link, so perhaps site forums are being planned for the future? I’ll have to check back.
So let’s discuss:
- Have you ever listened to an audio book? If so, did you like the format?
- Have you visited FacelessVoice.com and purchased audio book? If so what did you think?
- If you’ve never listened to an audio book how likely are you to stop by Faceless Voice and download a free book just to see what it’s like?
- Or do you think audio books in any genre are just not for you?
