Stella’s Story: Love And Fondue-Who Knew? Plus a giveaway!

Please welcome Stella Price co-author of Entwined by Fate by Stella and Audra Price.  She is sharing her love story today.

I was posed recently with the question of: How did you meet your hunny? Well, I thought back on it, and smiled. What a lot of people don’t know is Fondue (which is what we will be calling my hunny for all intents and purposes) and I are 6 years apart, and I am the elder. So how does a woman go about meeting a guy that is 6 years younger than herself and have the dumb luck to have him be mature enough to date? Well let me tell you.

Once upon a time Stella was a club promoter, and booked bands for a small upstate NY club that is now defunct (due to the owner having a vicious coke habit and running from Johnny Law). Fondue was in a band, and still in high school, but his band used to play for me all the time, and they were the ones I could count on to fill in when someone flaked on it. Fondue was 17 when we met, and we were just friends. I could count on him to help out when we needed a band, and there were numerous times his band even played for free for me because there was not enough people coming to the shows. Well He had this girlfriend, who I knew, and actually liked. She used to do the shows on occasion, and hangout. They were a pretty decent couple.

Anyway over the year he was 17, we hung out a lot, and became pretty close, and then spring break happened.

NO! Not like that!

His girlfriend went away with her family for the school holiday, and Fondue and his family were still about. He was playing a show for me about three days into the vacation. He and the band were at the club early to help me set up (my audio guy got arrested- did I mention what a ghetto town I live in?) and He got a phone call. It was her, and she was going on and on about this guy who was on vacay with her and her family. Fondue, not the jealous type, was cool with it… till two days later when one of the mutual friends of both him and his GF told him his GF confided in her that she was screwing the guy.

Fondue calls me a mess, and tells me he’s coming to my house. We talk. I was his shoulder to cry on. He deals and we flash forward to his Prom, where even though there was issues he HAD to go with her to the Prom. He was NOT happy, went with her, and then left early to come to a show I was throwing. I knew then that something was going on (not to mention when he would stop by my job after school for a few before he left for work).

We talked a lot, Hung out a lot. Nothing ever got further then a hug, because I was SO not going to be that girl. When he graduated, I was there, as a friend, and soon after his graduation was his 18th birthday.

On his birthday, He asked me out. Truth was he had become one of my best friends, and I was more comfortable around him then anyone else I had ever dated. I said yes, provided it was exclusive. By the time he was 19 we were exclusive, and I haven’t looked back. We have been together almost 7 years now, and engaged. I don’t know any other guy his age that was as level headed about our relationship, or my reservations dealing with it. Where as most guys would be pushing for something more, getting physical… Fondue didn’t do that. He was a complete gentleman. Because of our age differences, I had a lot of reservations, but he didn’t. He has always told me that he knew really early I was the one he was going to marry. Truth is I didn’t see myself with someone SO different then me, I mean he’s a water sign, I’m an Air sign, I like horror, action movies, reading and art, He likes instruments and comedies, he hates people, I’m extremely social… but it works.

He takes care of me in every way I can think of, Supports me with my writing by going to signings and conventions with me, and never bitches. I don’t know what I would do without him in my life. He loves me, and I love him to hell and back.

  19. Great story. And while 6 years is not much difference now, when one of you is a teenager, that's almost a generation as far as life experiences and culture goes. Glad to know that it's still going strong. Congrats!
