Sophia’s Reading Roundup – August 2011

Here are the stats for my August Reading reading roundup:

  • 1 – A
  • 6 – B
  • 1 – B-
  • 1 – C+
  • 2 – C
  • 1 – C+/B-

Currently Reading:
One Grave at a Time (Night Huntress, #6) Jeaniene Frost
And One Last Thing … Molly Harper
The Renfield Syndrom JA Saare

Read in August:

Hot as Hades Alisha Rai B-
This one will be out in October. The author puts her own fun, sexy spin on the old myth. There is a phantom cock involved. LOL Review to come.

IOU Sex Calista Fox C+
I enjoyed this. The title turned me off but I’m glad I got past it and decided to read it anyway. A quick, sexy read.

Unclaimed (Turner, #2) Courtney Milan A
I loved this and will read it again, probably before I post my review next month. The Turner brothers are so lovable. Virgin hero…swoon.

Deceiving the Protector (Resurrection, #2) Dee Tenorio B
A very good paranormal romantic suspense. I liked both the hero and the heroine. Review coming soon.

Eternal Hearts Jennifer Turner C
This was not what I expected. This second book in the series was different from the first. Not as dark and edgy. While I liked Eternal Seduction better, I still enjoyed Eternal Hearts.

Wild & Steamy   B
What a great anthology! I enjoyed all the stories, especially Carolyn Cranes contribution.

Nice Girls Don’t Date Dead Men (Jane Jameson, #2) Molly Harper B
I’m blazing my way through this fun series.

Nice Girls Don’t Live Forever (Jane Jameson, #3) Molly Harper B
I really do love this authors humor. Looking forward to more!

How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) Molly Harper B
I thought this was similar to the Jane Jameson series. As I progressed I found that this one stood out from the other series though.

The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #2) Molly Harper B
I was surprised to find that this series features a different h/h in each book unlike the Jane Jameson series. I really enjoyed this.

Divergent (Divergent, #1) Veronica Roth C
I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I thought I would. I didn’t dislike the heroine but I didn’t want to cheer for her either. I feel mean because she is a kid LOL. Review to come.

Good Girls Don’t (Donovan Brothers Brewery, #1) Victoria Dahl C+/B-
Woo and Hoo. Hot, steamy, funny, sexy. Loved this romance but thought the heroine was a little annoying. Looking forward to reading her brother’s stories though.

How was your August reading list? What can you recommend?

Have Unclaimed on my TBR shelf – was intrigued by the premise and the virgin hero ;-). Heroine isn’t my usual HR type, but the story seems like an interesting one. Saw on GR you liked it a lot.

Have you read the Mary Balogh book with a virgin hero, No Man’s Mistress?

3.5. Saw that when I went to link to the page. I read it in 2002 and I think part of my rating might have had to do with the heroine – I wasn’t big on mistress/courtesan HR heroines then.

I can’t believe you haven’t read ANY Balogh! That’s an HR crime!! I’m going to have to pull together a list of my favs for you. Some of her books are duds, but when she writes a good one, she writes a really good one. Her characters have such depth and complexity and her stories feel so much meatier compared to a lot of other historical romances.

Let me know if you end up enjoying it. Or at least are impressed by the narration of it. I’d be interested in listening to another HR. The last (and only so far) one I read was Soulless. I’ve started Slave to Sensation in audio with the hubby, but the narrator has a horrible, horrible habit of stressing any kind of sexual reference. My husband keeps giving me looks.

I can’t remember, have you read Untie My Heart?

If you like audio Sophia, you’ll probably love the Molly Harper books that way. They are narrated by Amanda Ronconi and she does an awesome job of delivering the humor of the books. I’ve only listened to the Jane Jameson series so far but she narrates all of MH’s books.

I also second the recommendation for Mary Balogh. She’s one of my favourite authors. My faves are Heartless and Indiscreet.

My favorites for the month were Between Sinners and Saints by Marie Sexton and Breaking Cover by Kaje Harper, both m/m romances. :)

Oh I love Amanda Ronconi! She’s great, I totally agree she delivers the humor.

I keep hearing really good things about Marie Sexton. Will check out her books.
