Sophia’s Favorite Books From 2013

Sophia’s Recommendations

Sadly this was not a good reading year for me. It’s a personal thing. Looking at my fellow FV reviewers lists I realize I didn’t even read many of the books on their best of 2013 lists. I’m hoping my 2014 TBR will be better and I’ll have time to read ALL the books!

I did manage some reading time this year and a few really awesome books did grace my ereader though.

Twice Tempted Jeaniene FrostTwice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost ** [AMZBNSK]
I was going to say I loved this one for Vlad. But I loved this one for Leila too. This couple is just so explosive together and this series is fantastic.

The ansty romance made this book for me.

“No one feels like you do, so every brush of your skin is a cruel reminder of what I’ve lost. I can barely stand the site of you because you’re more beautiful than I’ve allowed myself to remember, and when I cut that wire off ******* and smelled you all over him, I wanted to kill him more than I’ve wanted to kill anyone in my life, yet I couldn’t because of my promise to you.”

How to Misbehave by Ruthie KnoxHow To Misbehave by Ruthie Knox ** [AMZBNSK]
I discovered Ruthie Knox this year. I know. Where have I been? This author’s books have become my go-to comfort reads.

Knox writes a hero who is tough in all the right ways. He’s also unexpectedly vulnerable and Amber is perfect for him. I loved how Tony and Amber get to know each other and how the tension slowly, and deliciously built up between them.

Big Boy (Strangers on a Train) by Ruthie KnoxBig Boy by Ruthie Knox ** [AMZBNSK]
Oh this story gave me feels. Big feels! It was hot, romantic and emotional! It was rather short, but Knox knows how to write a complete, satisfying love story in shorter form. If you have never read Ruthie Knox, pick up this novella. It’s like a gateway drug.

Reaper's Property by Joanna WyldeReaper’s Property by Joanna Wylde ** [AMZBNSK]
I was undecided as to whether or not this book would make my 2013 rec list. The hero is not your momma’s romance hero but then it seems 2013 was the year of fucked-up-ed-ness. But sometimes it just works.

All the reason I might have left this book off my rec list are all the reasons it made the list. It’s a gritty, violent world and the relationships make me uncomfortable yet at the same time, they thrill me. The biker world is somewhat foreign to me but I got a sense of “the life” when reading this book, both good and bad.

Magic Rises Ilona AndrewsMagic Rises by Ilona Andrews ** [AMZBNSK]
I want to spoil the hell out of  you if you haven’t read this book. I really do. Because this book. THIS BOOK. I won’t, I’ll be vague. :)

As part of an amazing series a book would really have to bring it to get best of the series so far status. I didn’t think this far into the series I would experience “the unexpected” and the level of breath-holding anticipation but wow. I enthusiastically crown Magic Rises best of the series. So far.

    Hello Sophia,

Love your blog. I have just published an historical novel called Between the Cracks. It is about my great aunt’s experience of the eruption of Mt Etna in 1908 Sicily and her subsequent immigration to the U.S. I would like to send you a copy for your review. Web [web address removed]. Thank you for your time.
