2014 was a strange reading year for me. Some of my old favorites like BDB and the Cut and Run series had new releases that left me very underwhelmed. So with the help of some twitter stalking and the reviews here at FVBR, I opened myself to some new to me authors. And I never would have thought some books in the New Adult genre would wind up being my favorite reads of the year!
The Ivy Years Series by Sarina Bowen ** AMZ * BN * K
Hands down, my favorite series I read all year. I started with Book 3, The Understatement of the Year, and was instantly wowed and hooked. Then I went back and read the whole series. I loved every book. Book 1, The Year We Fell Down, is a regular re-read for me.
A Games Novel Series by Jessica Clare ** AMZ * BN * K
Funny, likable heroes and heroines – these were perfect reads in between the heavier stuff sometimes. I loved the concept of these books revolving around reality TV. I think book 3, Ice Games, was my favorite. A MMA fighter and an ice skater. Loved it!
McCauley Brothers Series by Marie Harte ** AMZ * BN * K
Shoot – maybe this was my favorite series. I don’t know. It’s so hard to pick. I LOVED all the brothers in this series. What To Do With a Bad Boy was my favorite out of all of them, and I adored the tattooed mechanic heroine in it. These were fun, sexy books, with some great depth to the characters, and mild angst. So good!
The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan ** AMZ * BN * K
This was the New Adult book that opened my eyes to how good they can be. Anna Jones and Drew Baylor burned up the pages in this book. I’ve re-read this book at least 3 times. While angsty in some parts, the chemistry between Anna and Drew is off the charts and keeps you wanting to come back again and again. I am dying for book 2 in this series!
“You’ve destroyed me, Anna Jones.”
Dirty Rowdy Thing by Christina Lauren ** AMZ * BN * K
I demand you immediately stop what you’re doing and go read this book if you haven’t already. Finn the fisherman might be my favorite hero from 2014. He was sexy, funny, and a filthy talker. WIN!
“Finn could break your vagina and be just handy enough to put it back together.”
It Happened One Wedding by Julie James ** AMZ * BN * K
Julie James never disappoints. The hero and heroine are both so strong-willed and it was fun to watch the fireworks between the two of them. James writes such smart and sexy characters and when you add in the fantastic dialogue, this was one of my favorites in this series.
