Bloggers Beware: You CAN Get Sued For Using Pics on Your Blog – “Well on one random post, I grabbed one random picture off of google and then a few weeks later I got contacted by the photographer who owned that photo. He sent me a takedown notice, which I responded to immediately because I felt awful that I had unknowingly used a copyrighted pic. The pic was down within minutes. But that wasn’t going to cut it. He wanted compensation for the pic.” Roni Loren, Romance Author

The Principle of Fair Use and Image Usage for Bloggers – “Bloggers have been going through their archives and taking down images out of concern for their own legal liability. The use of images on the internet is conscribed by copyright law.” Dear Author

RWA 2012 – The First Full Day of the Conference  – “As always, the Romance Writers of America conference is an almost overwhelming flurry of activity. On the one hand, I love walking through the hotel and hearing snippets of conversations from writers, editors, agents, and others. On the other hand, it can be something of a dizzying whirl. I’ve enjoyed catching up with folks I get to see only once a year, and I’ve gotten to meet some of the authors whose books I’ve loved, which is always a thrill. The sharing of ideas is quite contagious as people exchange information, tips, and gossip. As I’ve spoken to various authors, publishing houses, and agents, a few topics have already come up over and over again.” All About Romance’s News & Commentary Blog

The Continuing Rise of Self Published Authors on the Major Best Selling Book Lists – “For the 21st week in a row, E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey still holds the #1 spot, followed by Dark and Freed on the New York Times Combined Print and Ebook list. Not even Daniel Silva with The Fallen Angel for the first week can unseat Fifty or the other 2 books in the trilogy. Self published author, Colleen Hoover has risen up the chart and is now at #11 with Slammed. The sequel, Point of No Return is at number 23. Speaking of self published authors, they’re taking over the chart!” BABBLING ABOUT BOOKS, AND MORE!

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective WordPress Publishers – “Recently, the world lost one of its most highly effective men. Stephen Covey died on July 16, 2012 at age 79. Covey will be remembered as a transformative thinker on leadership and personal effectiveness. His book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” is, and will continue to be, one of the greatest instruction manuals for personal growth that has ever been written. Today’s post is a respectful homage to his most lasting legacy — those 7 effective habits. And since we focus on WordPress around here, that’s what we’ll apply them to. So, in honor of the late, great Stephen Covey, here are the seven habits of highly effective WordPress users.” Synthesis Blog

LOL I’m going to try to wrangle one of those “rumored” smaller iPads out of our budget. Flipboard sounds like just the thing I’ll need. I’ll of course test it out on my iPhone but I really, really think it would be better on a new snazzy iPad, don’t you? (say yes)
