Elisabeth Naughton’s Eternal Guardians series continues in Tempted the 3rd book which focuses on the story between Demetrius the “damaged” and dangerous warrior and Isadora the untouched spoiled princess. Their paths have been crossing for a while now in this series and as a reader I just knew they had to be together. I’m so glad Naughton didn’t make us wait through another book for their story!
Deep down inside Demetrius knows he is in love with Isadora, but his head keeps telling him he is so wrong for her. He tells himself he doesn’t deserve happiness and he is too dangerous. He’s often treated her poorly to keep her at a distance. He also has big secrets he hides from everyone! While the two are stranded together on a strange island, Isadora starts to transform and slowly moves from that spoiled princess role to a confident woman who realizes she is capable of being independent. She also sees right through Demetrius’ dangerous dude exterior and sees him for who he really is. I had to keep reminding myself of this at the times Demetrius was so rude to her. However, as their romance develops I found myself growing frustrated with the “are they/are they not” going to finally get it on with each other!
While this sort of plot is not unusual in paranormal romance, I do enjoy Ms. Naughton’s storytelling. The characters and their world come to life for me on the pages. There are lots of mythical creatures going on in this world at this point, and I am curious to see how Ms. Naughton keeps the storylines evolving and fresh.
The most intriguing things in Tempted and this series right now for me are the characters of Orpheus and his brother Gryphon who is injured. Orpheus offers up some of the best dialogue in this book and the series. I am really looking forward to more information and stories about these two characters.
