Review: Supernatural – Anthology

SupernaturalVampire Fight Club by Larissa Ione

When a wave of violence forces shapeshifter Vladlena to go undercover, her first stop is a haven of vice-with a dangerously sexy vamp in charge. Both Vladlena and Nathan are hiding something, but they can’t conceal the lust that simmers between them …

Set in the Demonica world, Vampire Fight Club is the standout story for me in this anthology. I am a huge fan of Ione’s Demonica series and this story does not disappoint. But what I really loved is at the end of it while I found myself craving more of the Demonica world, I felt completely satisfied with this story. Ione is able to provide well-rounded characters, vivid action, steamy sex, and even shows us some of those sexy Demonica demons we all love! I don’t think you have to have read any of the Demonica books to enjoy this story either. Overall this is superb writing by Larissa Ione and should not be missed! (A+!)

Darkness Eternal by Alexandra Ivy

After being held captive by one vampire for four centuries, Kata had no intention of taking another one to the underwold with her. Yet even in the pits of hell, there’s no ignoring the intoxicating desire awakened by his touch.

I have never read anything by Alexandra Ivy, but after reading this story, I’m definitely going to try some of her other books. This story is set in her Guardians of Eternity series and I was little lost in the first few pages, but my attention was quickly grabbed when Kata the heroine entered the picture. One thing I appreciated about this story is the way the hero, Uriel, a male vampire who could no longer deny his attraction to Kata, did not smother her or try to overpower here in an alpha male sort of way. He did protect her but he also allowed her to be herself. Overall this was a sweet story between a hero and heroine that kept me interested even though I knew nothing about the series. I particuarly enjoyed the dialogue between all the characters.

Kane by Jacquelyn Frank

Kane knows Corrine was meant to be his…just as he knows that truly possessing the lovely human is forbidden. But on the night of the Samhain moon, the beast in every demon is stronger than reason, and Kane’s hunger is more powerful than any punishment …

I only read the first book in Frank’s Nightwalker series and I found it hard for me to stay interested in this one. I did enjoy the hero and especially liked the strong heroine, but the whole thing was kind of meh for me. Maybe if I knew more about the series/world it would have grabbed my attention more? I also felt the coupling between the hero and heroine happened a little fast for me. But from what I understand these two characters have been dancing around each other for awhile in this series, so readers of the Nightwalker series may be very satisfied with this story.

Dragon on Top by G.A. Aiken

Escorting the highborn Bram through deadly Sand Dragon territory will try Ghleanna’s patience…and her resolve. For Bram is determined to enhance the journey with a seduction no female could resist.

When I read the first few pages, I thought to myself, “Seriously…dragons?” I haven’t read any dragon themed books. Oh, but after reading this, I must read G.A. Aiken’s other books! I adored this story. It was so great to see the heroine as the badass protector of the hero. The dialogue between all the characters was fantastic. I also found this world the author has created to be interesting, and I have a desire to learn more about it. This was a story that had me laughing out loud and left me impressed with G.A. Aiken’s writing. So much fun! But seriously … can I be Ghleanna, the dragon heroine, just for a day? Please!

Overall, in my opinion Supernatural is worth the read for Larissa Ione’s story alone! However it also introduced me to some “new-to-me” authors and I can’t wait to start tackling their other books.

Favorite Quote: From Dragon on Top

Bram nearly jumped out of his frail human skin when he realized that Ghleanna had gotten around him somehow.

“Don’t do that.”

“Do what?”

“Sneak around.”

“Do you mean walk around? Because that’s what I actually did. I usually crouch more when I sneak-and then I kill someone.”

Funny, I bought this book for the G.A. Aiken story. I LOVE her dragons. Warning: DO NOT drink anything while reading. You will spew.

I’ve read the first 2 books in G.A. Aiken’s series and they are hilarious. If you liked the short then I would give them a go. She also write a couple other shifter series under the name Shelly Laurenston that are great.

This one sounds fun – I would buy it for Ione – but it sounds like we get a lot of good stories. I met Ivy at AAD and picked some of her books. Looking forward to trying her
