Blake Coleman is old enough to know that acting on impulse causes nothing but a heap of trouble. But when trouble’s a blonde wearing a cowboy hat with slim legs that go on forever, what’s a man to do? Wanting the sweet girl next door is just wrong. Hell, he was the one that taught her to ride a horse and now all he can think about is riding her. The responsible thing to do is keep his hands off.

Jaxi has other plans for his hands, and his heart. She may have considered Blake a big brother once but that was a long time ago. She’s all grown up now and ready to convince him that she’s just what he’s been waiting for.

Add the complication of two sexy younger brothers who have suddenly noticed Jaxi and things heat up fast. Blake’s gonna have to decide if a little trouble is worth fighting for.

Rocky Mountain Heat is the first in the Six Pack Ranch series.  I read this book because of a strong recommendation from Pearl at Pearl’s World Of Romance and I have to admit, Pearl knows a good cowboy romance when she reads one.  Cowboy romances have never really been my thing but I’ve found lately that I’m drawn to them more and more. Look at that cover, I think it speaks for itself.
Jaxi and Blake have known each other since Jaxi was a little girl. Blake being 10 years older than her, has always played the big brother to Jaxi, teaching her how to ride a horse and providing brotherly support when needed.  Now that Jaxi has grown into a beautiful young woman Blake begins to see her in a much different light and believes his romantic feelings for her are wrong.  So, he does his best to avoid her hoping his feelings will just go away.

Jaxi is no stranger to the Coleman family.  She’s been hanging around and charming the Coleman brothers for years and has even dated one of them casually.  But, her heart has always belonged to Blake who seems to have no interest in her other than friendship.  But Jaxi is a practical and clever girl and she’ll make sure she gets her prize, one way or another.

Rocky Mountain Heat is a wonderfully romantic and sexy story.  I found both Jaxi and Blake very likeable characters and their romantic chemistry is off the charts.  There are plenty of laugh out loud moments thanks to the slightly unruly band of brothers who are all interesting and strong characters that will surely provide great material for future books in the series.  I’m particularly interested in Travis, the brother that Jaxi dated once upon a time.  He has a secret that I suspect will make for a great story. :)
This is my first Vivian Arend read and it will not be my last.  I’ll be picking up Rocky Mountain Haven ASAP!  I must know what those sexy Coleman brothers are up to next.
Favorite quote (from the prologue):

Forget going to hell, he was already there. Being tormented by satan himself as the old boy directed the little fever-induced drama happening on the side of the 766 Secondary Highway.

  1. Oh this sounds GOOOOD! I love the idea of the brothers all kinda going for her attention and that he was like an older brother!!! =) Thanks girl!

  2. Hey Monroe–yes, Jaxi has two brothers besides Blake that are interested in her. Makes for some nice tension. :)

  3. FV! You rocked this review! Glad you liked it. Always tricky with recommendations, you never know if someone else will like the book as much as you do but very happy you did!

Now go try some Lorelei James ;) LOL

    Hugs,
    Pearl

  4. Pearl, if you say Lorelei James, I'm there!! Thanks so much for the rec. :)

  5. Oh Cowboy take me away.

So I'm assuming this is not a Lora Leigh brother type situation…

I must haz this one I must!!!

  6. KC: Noooo, no Lora Leigh sharing in this one. There may have been a little light petting though? hehe

  7. Compared to Lorelei James, Viv is a bit lighter…more humorous. Lorelei is very heavy on the emotional impact. Haven't read a single one I haven't cried at the end, though I must say did tear up in the end of ROCKY MONTAIN HAVEN (bk 2).

And let me sweeten the pot for you: There is quite some menage in book 1 of the Rough Rider series. And book 5 is a sort of m/m relationship turns m/m/f book ;)

  8. Not into cowboys, but it caught my eye since I live near the Rockies. :) You know it's gotta be good if it's called Rough Riders. :)

  9. Ohh sexy cowboy brothers.. cowboy brothers are to contemp romance what werewolf alpha men are to paranormal romance perhaps ;D

  10. @Pearl–I'm convinced Pearl! You are my go to girl for cowboy romance from now on! :)

@Melissa–Cowboys have never been my thing but I've had a change of heart. Vivian's cowboys are yummy!

@Heather–Oh girl, you hit the nail on the head, I totally agree!

  11. Oh sexy cowboys..and a man with a secret..I guess I should start with this one!! :) Nice review!

  12. Holy crap… I like this review honey!!! I have seen this book around and read a few reviews and your's just sealed the deal!!! Sexy cowboys… and covers like that… hee hee!!! Thanks honey!!!!

  13. I read this awhile ago – I never really liked Jaxi, but I admired her a lot..

She had some style about her..

I thought Ms. Arend did a great job with the building of the ranch world and defining the brothers..

Just until you read the next book – so good..
