So apparently in her spare time Nalini Singh decided to take a detour from her much beloved PNR and UF series to write a contemporary romance featuring a tatted up rock star and the attention shy librarian he falls in love with at first sight. Yes, please! The first book in her new Schoolboy Choir series features the band’s lead singer Zachary Fox and he is simply delicious.
Rock Addiction jumps right in with this couple meeting at a party for the band Schoolboy Choir where our hero spies our heroine across the room and after seeing her smile knows immediately that she is the woman for him. Thinking she would love to take the rock god home for a little fun on a one time only basis, Molly Webster finds herself first being seduced in an elevator, then romanced in a car and by the end of the night thoroughly shagged by the man of her dreams. It’s not until the next day that Molly realizes Fox wants more than one night and even though she desperately wants to say yes, she doesn’t know if she can get over her teenage trauma to let the superstar in.
Molly has a rocky relationship with fame and media attention after being caught up in an epic scandal when her politician father is discovered with an underage girl. What followed was years of pain and anger and a tragedy she still hasn’t gotten over. Her quiet, sedate life out of the spotlight is exactly what she’s decided she needs. Fox on the other hand is a force of nature and it’s not long before Molly does end up agreeing to a month of full on, super sexy physical exploration.
I don’t think I was prepared for the ultra sexiness of this book. It kind of took me by surprise because while Nalini Singh does do sexy well, Fox and Molly heat up the pages over and over until I almost wished they would get it out of their systems and calm down a bit. I can’t believe I just said that, but it’s true. This couple has an almost inta-love/lust in the first part of the book that had me wondering if they connected in any place other than the bedroom. Zachary Fox is an intense, pleasure-loving rock star who knows what he wants and what he wants is Molly. He does everything he can to get her so addicted to them being together that she gradually breaks out of her shell until she is more than willing to follow him to the ends of the earth.
This leads us to the second part of the book, which I thought was more engaging and enjoyable than the beginning. As Molly and Fox are settling into coupledom the nature of Fox’s fame causes many stresses between them. I for one was thrilled that Molly full on admits her jealousies and works hard to find a place for herself in the rock star life. She shows her true strength and resilience when starting over in a world completely foreign to her and blossoming despite her many fears. Despite the many, many, many sex scenes that continue in the second half, I felt they communicated better and connected on a deeper level once they decided to settle into a life together. Fox is completely dedicated to Molly from the first moment he sees her across the room and that makes him a truly wonderful hero in my eyes.
Surrounding Fox and Molly are a wonderful cast of secondary characters that are sure to capture readers attention and have them wondering who’s story is up next. I will absolutely be carrying on with this series. I’m a huge fan of this author and love that I can add another one of her series to my must read list. Final Grade- B
“My tough, sexy Molly.” His body shuddered again, his eyes dark. “I’m so fucking glad you’re mine.”
