Blurb from Goodreads:
Hollywood royalty Jeremy Jameson has lived a sheltered life with music as his sole focus and only friend. Before embarking on yet another international concert tour, he wanders into a bar in what he considers the middle of nowhere and meets a man who wins him over with his friendly smile and easy-going nature. Accountant slash bartender slash adventure-seeker Reg Moore has fun talking and drinking with The Jeremy Jameson and can’t say no when the supposedly straight rock star makes him a once in a lifetime offer: keep him company on his tour by playing the part of his boyfriend.
Listening to music, traveling the world, and jumping off cliffs is fun. Falling in love is even better. But to stay with Jeremy after the stage lights dim, Reg will need to help him realize there’s nothing pretend about their relationship.
After reading the blurb I was immediately intrigued, because rock star + nobody bartender + friends to lovers = Angela must have. So as soon as I saw this in my inbox I immediately opened it and started to read. Then I got so wrapped up in this couple that I kept reading until I finished. I had some issues as far as how perfect Reg was from beginning to end or how incredibly childlike and immature Jeremy appeared at times, but over all this romance and this couple kept me reading right up until their happily ever after.
Jeremy Jameson walks into a backwoods bar, where he hopes no body will recognize his famous face, just wanting to get away before he starts another long concert tour. He strikes up a conversation with the outgoing bartender and before he knows it it’s one a.m. and closing time. Drunk and unable to drive he takes the bartender up on his offer of sleeping it off on his couch, Jeremy hasn’t ever met anyone like Reg before. He’s open, honest, friendly and so very easy to talk to. So he makes him an offer he can’t refuse, accompany him as his pretend boyfriend on his world tour and he’ll pay all the bills and on his off days the two will try every crazy, adventurous stunt on Reg’s to do list.
Jeremy and Reg connect right off the bat. They have great chemistry and banter and Reg seems to know exactly how to manage the high-maintenance Jeremy. And Jeremy is very high maintenance, and very high-strung and at times quite immature. He throws little fits and gets upset, but as his back-story came out I kind of understood this part of his personality. Every single person in his life until Reg has either used him or been so caught up in his fame that they’ve treated him differently. Jeremy has never had a real friend, real relationship, comfort, closeness or any kind of honest intimacy with another person. So when Reg enters his life he’s unsure how exactly to take him and his joking and laid back attitude, but he knows he wants to grab on with both hands and keep him as long as he can.
I loved how their relationship slowly developed into a very deep friendship and then eventually into an intense love affair. All of the conflicts you would normally assume this couple would go through… don’t really happen. At times their relationship felt a little too easy, like Reg might be a too perfect. Even Jeremy finally realizing that he is sexually attracted to Reg should have been much more dramatic. But for some reason I didn’t care. I just didn’t. This couple had me from the moment they met in the bar. They are fun, incredibly sweet and once they enter into a sexual relationship, smoking hot. (Absolutely no closed-door sex scenes here guys.)
This is my first book by Cardeno C., but I will absolutely be looking up this author’s backlist. This friends to lovers romance was so sweet and endearing that I would recommend to any lover of contemporary m/m romance. Final Grade- B
“I’m going to show you what it means to have a real relationship, JJ.” Reg paused and grinned. “Even if it is pretend.”
