Christine Feehan is one of my comfort authors. I have probably read over 30 books written by her and she never lets me down. I know exactly what to expect and since I have such a high level of familiarity with her writing I know what mindset I need to be in when I pick up one of her books. Leopard’s Prey is the sixth book in her Leopard People series and the second one set in Louisiana.
Remy Boudreux is a bayou cop and serves as strong member of the pack. Having no desire to be alpha he was happy to give that job to Drake Donovan when the other man married into the family. For years he has been on the hunt for a serial killer that left four bodies in his bayou. The killer was meticulous in his work and left no evidence behind for anyone to find. Now after many years there is a new body marking the return of the monster.
Also recently returned is Bijou Breaux or Blue as Remy calls her. Bijou is the daughter of a famous, local musician. Her dad was anything but a good influence but had a cult like following at the time of his death. There was no lack of publicity on the lack of relationship between Bijou and her famous father and so when Bijou inherited everything people were very angry. Bijou is a successful singer in her own right, even if people swear she is living off her father’s reputation, but is not cut out for the lifestyle of a famous person. She is back home to live a quiet, normal life. If such a thing is possible.
The first thing Bijou does is stumble across the recent murder committed by the serial killer. This puts her firmly in Remy’s sights and he is not going to let her out. If what he suspects is true then he plans on keeping her for good.
Remy Boudreux is exactly what the doctor ordered if you are looking for alpha. He might not have wanted the leadership position but that wasn’t because he lacks any testosterone. He wants Blue and he wastes no time in going after her. Their first sex scene is explosive and violent. Things are happening to Blue that she doesn’t understand and instead of taking the time to explain them to her Remy attempts to sex her to death. I can’t say I was complaining while I was reading the scene but man, I kind of felt of for the poor girl. She had a lot going on and most of it was foreign to anything she had ever experienced before.
There are several different mysteries working at once in Leopard’s Prey. The biggest whodunit is the serial killer crimes. We also have some local shifters acting out, some voodoo brother’s causing trouble, and part of Bijou’s management team plotting to cash in on a life insurance policy. At one point I did have a little eye roll because Remy makes a comment that is so true.
“I believe half of New Orleans is tryin’ to kill you and the other half wants to go to bed with you.”
Um, yes. Bijou was quite the focus for a lot of people. It would have been interesting if just one of the plots was not tied to her but as it was the whole book revolved around the clueless Bijou.
There are several other shifters introduced that I am guessing will allow Ms. Feehan to seamlessly continue this series. Remy has lots of yummy brothers and Drake has some new enforcers that will need mates too. I am curious where the women will come from because as of now I didn’t see any spare female shifters hanging around on the periphery.
Leopard’s Prey gave me exactly what I was hoping when I started the book. I got a whole lot of alpha shifter action, some hot smexin’ and the promise of more to come in some future books. Ms. Feehan did not let me down. If you are looking for any of the above books, you should check out her work. Final grade- B-
He made her sound like a little rabbit. “Your sister said you ahve a one track mind and it’s most annoyin’. I’m beginnin’ to believe her.”
He leaned across the table, his cobalt blue eyes holding her gaze captive. He was absolutely mesmerizing. “No, you don’. You find me charming.”
