Oh, wow. This serial is blowing my mind. With each installment it just gets better and better. I am completely hooked.
At the end of part three, Ariq let it be known that Zenobia was under his protection and in the process revealed that he knew more about her than she thought. Now they are finally in the Red City and he wants them to come to an understanding about their relationship. There is intense chemistry and attraction between them, but they’ve been playing this push and pull, back and forth game and neither knows what exactly is going on or just what the other really feels. Ariq wants her to tell him what all she needs protecting from, but she’s scared of exactly what to reveal because she’s unsure how much Ariq already knows. He wants her to come to him with the truth, because only then will he believe that she truly trusts him. But Ariq is determined that no matter what, they will settle this thing between them and finally become lovers.
Unfortunately, right when the getting’s good and readers think that “YES!! It’s finally happening!” the bad guys interrupt and Zenobia and Ariq are taken hostage. I might have whimpered and cried just a little bit. But this leads to an understanding of who the bad guys are and what their mission is…. and one swoon worthy, romantic moment that I read three times. Then I highlighted it and read it again. I am not kidding. Meljean Brook slayed me and then left me hanging, desperately looking forward to the next installment.
Part 4 includes chapters 13-15, and so far is my favorite. While I have a lot of love for the world building and action, it’s really Ariq and Zenobia who make the Kraken King such an intense and captivating read. I am in love with this H/h. Together. Apart. They are awesome. Final Grade- A
On to The Kraken King Part V: The Kraken King and the Iron Heart.
My second favorite quote: (because you really need to read my favorite for yourselves)
Still staring out the porthole, she said, “How big?”
Ariq leaned closer and waited until she looked up at him. That amazing, terrible smile had widened to a grin. “My grip isn’t the only reason I’m called the Kraken.”
