When Hannah’s caught watching her late husband’s cousin debauch the maid in the library, she’s mortified–but also intrigued. An unpaid companion to his aunt, she’s used to being ignored.
The black sheep of the family, Leo has nothing but his good looks and noble birth to recommend him. Hannah ought to be appalled at what she’s witnessed, but there’s something about Leo that draws her to him.
When Leo claims he can prove that women can feel desire as passionately as men, Hannah is incredulous. Her own experiences have been uninspiring. Yet she can’t bring herself to refuse his audacious proposal when he offers to tutor her in the art of lovemaking. As the tantalizing, wicked lessons continue, she begins to fear she’s losing not just her inhibitions, but her heart as well. The poorest of relations, she has nothing to offer Leo but herself. Will it be enough when their erotic education ends?
Improper Relations by Juliana Ross is a short, steamy historical erotic. It tells the story of Leo and Hannah. Both Leo and Hannah are looked upon as less than perfect. Hannah is an after thought for most people and Leo is the wastrel that won’t ever amount to anything.
One day while working on her sewing Hannah sees Leo perform some startling acts with a house maid. In an interesting turn, as soon as they are done Leo calls out to Hannah. He knew she had been watching from the beginning. Hannah is pretty embarrassed but knows she can’t hide so she sucks it up and questions him on what he was doing. Leo volunteers to show her instead of tell her. This starts Hannah’s journey into sensuality. Immediately captivated by her innocence Leo cannot stop coming back for more.
I thought Improper Relations was an interesting look into historical erotica. Leo teaches Hannah some terms and positions that are not really acceptable for the time and it was funny to read her reaction to the words. It also shows how such things were severely frowned upon in that era. Eventually they are caught and Hannah is thrown out of her position in the household. She is forced to leave without telling Leo. Eventually there is a happily ever after but not after some minor conflict.
One thing I did find a little odd was even when they were in a carnal relationship Hannah calls Leo “Cousin Leo”. That was just weird. I can’t imagine calling the man I am sleeping with the name of any type of relation.
Overall, short, hot and sweet with an excellent cover. Buy it if you are looking for an erotic historical. Final grade- C
