Alisha Rai retells the story of Hades, god of the underworld and his would-be bride, Persephone goddess of green stuff, minus the ick factor and more of the funny and sexy. The Samhain warning reads like this:
Warning: Contains an arrogant god, a stubborn goddess, horny deity nookie and enough supernatural friction to set the Underworld on fire.
If you’re familiar with Alisha Rai’s work then you know after a “warning” like this you’re probably in for a sexin’ good time.
For me Hades and his “little buddy” <—more on this later, were the highlight of this story. Hades is god of the Underworld, arrogant yet with very good reason. He’s a dark dude and lives in hell. He’s cocky in both the good and the bad way. *waggles eyebrows* Although he’s got the weight of the Underworld on his shoulders he’s a bit of a secret softie when he finds himself in lurve.
Persephone is stubborn and feisty and stands up to Hades and maybe even puts him in his place. However up against Hades her character just didn’t shine as much for me. She just wasn’t as funny or appealing as Hades although I did like her well enough. The two of them together create serious sexual heat with some very erotic scenes but the romance didn’t seem to keep pace with the sexual tension and I didn’t feel that “ahhhh romance” vibe until fairly late in the story.
I mentioned Hades’ little buddy and you’ll probably assume I’m talking about a sharp-witted hell-hound or something. Well, you get one of those too, no worries there. But the little buddy I speak of comes in the form of:
A Phantom Cock
Yes, you read that right (if you clicked)
Hades has a:
Spooky Soldier, a Spectral Sausage, a Poltergeist Pecker, a Hung Haunter, a Wraith Wiener…you get the picture.
Hades’ little buddy makes his appearance during a pretty intense scene and I couldn’t decide if it was overly warm in the room or if I was about to bust out giggling. Smokin’ hot erotic or funny as, well…hell? This is what I love about Alisa Rai’s style. She writes such sexy stories that are laced with humor and fun and I’m always entertained.
Hot as Hades is as the title promises, a very sexy retelling of Hades and Persephone. Although it was a little light on the romance, I found it to be fun and entertaining.
