Headed for Trouble is an anthology of out-takes/never before seen scenes, short stories that were previously published, and character interviews from Brockmann’s popular and addictive Troubleshooters series. This is book 16.5 in the series, but I use the word “book” loosely here. I was so stinkin’ excited to get my hands on anything related to this series, that maybe I built it all up too much in my brain. But this didn’t really pull me in. Some of the stories go way back…way way back. It’s been many years since I started this series. The first book was in 2000! If you are a long time fan of this series, you may be interested in reading this. If you are not caught up on this series, then you definitely want to hold off.
I can say I enjoyed anything written that involved the character Jules Cassidy, one of my favorite book characters ever. But this isn’t a book filled with steamy stories or anything groundbreaking. Does it tie together some pieces along the way here and there? Yes. Is Sam Starrett still sexy as hell? Absolutely. But overall it didn’t fill the void that a new book in this series would.
I’m not sure where Brockmann is headed in the Troubleshooters series – will there be more? But her website does announce a new book that will be a spin-off from this series coming in 2014.
