Homicide Detective Rita Moldova has a secret: a crystal amulet, a Roma family heirloom that allows her to see the last thing a person saw before they died.

When a ritual killer starts terrorizing her town, FBI agent Matt Boulet is sent to lead the task force to catch the murderer. While Rita feels she has a connection with Agent Boulet, she senses he is holding back a deep dark secret about the killer. Her suspicions deepen when she learns another secret about her Roma family—one she finds impossible to swallow.

Rita Maldova is a homicide detective involved in the investigation of the recent serial killings the area.  She is more than capable of holding her own with her fellow detectives but thanks to her family heritage, she has a edge when it comes to solving murders.  She wears a crystal amulet given to her by her Romany mother that allows her to see the last person a murder victim saw before they died.  However when the crystal fails to reveal an image of the killer in her recent investigation, she fears that something is amiss.

When agent Matt Boulet joins the investigation, Rita feels like he is holding back on what he knows about the case.  Rita realizes Matt knows a little more about her Romany heritage than she is comfortable with when he asks her for her family’s help in solving the recent murders.  In spite of the undeniable chemistry between the two of them, she is a bit suspicious and is determined to find out what Matt is holding back.

Rita is a tough and dedicated cop.  She is confident, independent and focused on her job as a detective.  Although she wears her amulet given to her by her family and believes in it’s power, she is still a bit skeptical of her family’s strong belief in Romany legends.  I found this a little confusing since she used the amulet to solve murders quite successfully up until the recent string of related homicides.  I wondered why she was so shocked and taken back when the identity and nature of the killer was revealed when she has known about her family’s beliefs and history all her life. Her reaction seemed a bit strong since Gypsy magic and lore was not new to her.

Matt’s character is mysterious, and very sexy.  He and Rita feel a connection to each other right away.  Although Matt’s main objective is to solve the case, he doesn’t hide his attraction to Rita and makes it known he wants her.  He’s keeping more than a few secrets from her which only adds to his allure.

Gypsy Crystal is an action packed paranormal romantic thriller and I enjoyed the romantic chemistry between Matt and Rita. This is a fast paced read, and the mystery and final action scene held a few unexpected surprises.

    Nice review.

  3. Matt sounds interesting – sexy and mysterious is a good combo! The crystal concept sounds different than my usual paranormals..

  4. I love cop books – toss in the FBI and my day is made..

I so want to read this – but must get some of my TBR pile down first.
