Book three of the Heart of Fame series features Chris. Rowan from Muscle For Hire is his sister and he is an up and coming famous movie star/sex symbol. He has had a rough couple of months and is back in Sydney to promote his newest release. Rowan’s husband hires a bodyguard to stay with him for the week he is there and the bodyguard is Liev Reynolds.
Holy fuck. Holy fuck, he’d just been staring at another man’s package.
Chris’ first look at Liev is a shocking one. It is almost like every second of his life had been geared towards this moment of meeting Liev. It is suddenly clear why he has never had a serious relationship and why things with women have always been take it or leave it for him. He wants Liev, wants him bad.
Liev has watched Chris from afar as a favor before so he knows the impact the man will have on him. Liev is bisexual and has known for many years that he likes sex any way he can get it. Something in Chris scares him. He thinks that Chris could be the one he doesn’t get over. But he is the bodyguard and getting involved with the person you a guarding is the best way for trouble to happen. Plus, Chris has a status to maintain as the sexiest man alive and there is no way Liev will ruin his career and life by pushing anything.
Eventually Chris and Liev cannot resist each other and they come together. They share a night that neither of them will ever forget but when morning comes Liev freaks out and call things off. It doesn’t matter that it breaks his heart, he won’t be the one to hurt Chris or his future. Liev will soon find out though that Chris isn’t one to give up so easy and he is determined to keep Liev.
I really liked Chris in this book. This was his first real attraction to a man so I wondered how he could just jump right in but when he did he was fun to watch. He wasn’t afraid to go for what he wanted and he knew he wanted Liev. He was willing to break down whatever barriers stood in the way to get what he wanted. One of those barriers just happened to be Liev but the last 15% of the book is fun, sweet and goes a long way to showing Liev how they can be together.
My biggest issue with the book was that I wanted it to be Chris and Liev’s book but Bethany just wouldn’t go away. During their first real sex scene, Bethany walks in to bring them water. You know, to keep them hydrated? What? Why was she there? And it didn’t seem like she would go away. It wasn’t until Liev took Chris up to his room that Bethany wasn’t in the picture. Yes, yes I know she technically got them together but I can’t really say I like how that happened either. It came off as creepy and intrusive.
Overall, I liked this book. It was pretty hot and there is something that always gets me about it being the first time for one of the men. I liked how there wasn’t too much denial on either side; just enough to make watching Liev grovel a real treat. If I were able to remove Bethany, which I kind of did in my mind, Chris and Liev are great together and I can’t wait to see more of them in future books! Final grade- B-
Chris chuckled. “Hurry the fuck up, Reynolds. Before I drag you into my room, throw you on the bed and go all method acting on your ass. I’ve watched Brokeback Mountain. Twice.”
