Trueblood vampires. Those set apart from common’s by right of blood. Graced with extraordinary abilities such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition – they are the most powerful and feared among their kind. The secret lies within, a legacy evolving from the truest form of magic, and their living bloodlines are the key.
An average morning is what Emma Johnson envisions when she visits Joe’s Café for a steaming cup of coffee. But the world isn’t the place she imagined it to be, and neither is she…
After Emma is rescued from a horde of bloodthirsty creatures, she discovers she is the daughter of a powerful Vampire from the House Deviard, her rescuer, Caleb, having been sent to see her safely home. For Caleb is also unique, a werewolf procured to protect the royal Vampiric bloodlines from harm – but nothing more.
Soon, the undeniable connection Emma and Caleb share evolves beyond attraction into something unexpected. When she is forced to make a choice, what path will she take – vampire or wolf?
Emma is a young woman who is basically on her own. She doesn’t know her father and her mother died when she was young so she was raised by her grandmother who is now incoherent most days due to her failing health. Her life is not that of an average 18 year old but certainly certainly mundane to say the least. That’s all about to change with one visit to a local cafe. A former classmate from school spots her and stops to say hello. When Emma gets a strange vibe from him, she makes a polite but quick retreat. That’s when her world is changed forever. She finds herself being chased down by a gang of semi-human creatures. In the process she is abducted by two men who claim they are they are there to protect her. They tell her she is the daughter of a powerful Trueblood vampire and her life is in danger. In a matter of minutes, Emma is thrust into a dangerous world of vampires and werewolves.
Caleb is a werewolf who is part of a unique group that has been hired by the Trueblood vampires for protection. This is supposed to be just a job but it doesn’t take Caleb long to realize Emma is much more than a charge he’s bound to protect. In the process of their journey together, Emma finds herself inexplicably attracted to Caleb, and he appears to feel the same way about her. Fate seems to have put them together, however it is now about to tear them apart. Emma must leave Caleb to go to her Vampire family to make a choice that will forever change her life.
Crimson Moon reads almost like to books combined. In the first half (the werewolf half) we experience Emma and Caleb’s developing romance. Knowing they will have to eventually part ways it’s a very emotional build on their romantic relationship. When the time comes for Emma to leave and go to her vampire family,(the vampire half) we’re introduced to Trent, a vampire that has been watching Emma for years. He’s been watching out for her on orders from her father. He acts as mentor to her when she is introduced to her vampire family, guiding her and teaching her in vampire ways and laws. He also has a romantic interest in Emma which she resists, but due to her circumstances, things become very complicated.
I found myself very torn in this love triangle which I didn’t think possible. Caleb is certainly a swoon worthy hero and he captured my heart right away. When Trent entered the picture I was immediately suspect of him and never dreamed I might be tempted to the vampire side. However I found myself to be quite fickle in my affections for the heroes in this story and a bit torn in how I feel about the ending. I most certainly look forward to the next book in series, in hopes that all the heroes I loved in this book will find their happily ever after.
I really only have one tiny complaint with this story and it’s one I can’t discuss fully without spoiling. So, I will put it this way: I was not fully convinced at the reaction one of the characters had to an epic betrayal. Although this particular character seemed to take pretty much everything in stride, the betrayal was major and the reaction just didn’t seem inline with the offense and it felt glazed over. I wish I could go into more but that’s really all l can say without ruining a major plot twist, sorry.
J.A. Saare has written a wonderfully romantic story in Crimson Moon. The characters are emotionally authentic and the writing is crisp with with an exciting plot that is sure to pull you in and keep you captivated with every page. If you like stories with sexy, romantic heroes, strong, quick witted heroines, and intriguing plot twists, then you’ll want to read Crimson Moon.
Note: I usually put my favorite quote from the book in this spot. I was so engaged in this story, I forgot to pick a favorite quote. O_o

I'm skipping this one until I read the book..which is very soon. But from the ratings I have seen..I can't wait to get to it!!
I really like the cover to this book and from reading your review I think I really want to read it now. LOL I've seen it before around goodreads and now I want it! Great review! I hope I win this one!
My question for J.A Saare is… Are any of your characters anything like you?
goodchoicereadin (at) aol (dot) com.
Love, love, love – love triangles! I can't help it, something about them just *shrugs* I don't know…especially if both suitors are swoon-worthy
Sounds like this story has a good one! Is this a different world than her Dead, Undead book?
Would love to read this, enter me please.
FV ~
Thanks again for reading my story and reviewing it. It's very different from Dead, so I was worried.
You know, the betrayal was something I didn't even think about really think about until just now. That's the wonderful thing about CP's (I didn't have a crit partner when I wrote CM) who can see things, question them, and add to the story.
Mandi ~
It's not Dead, but I do hope you like the story.
Dee ~
Of any character, I am most like Rhiannon (from Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between). Thanks for entering the contest!
Jaime
Ugh, and please ignore the horrible double wording above. I'm half-awake and need more coffee!! ;D
Patti ~
Sorry, we posted at the same time I think. It's a different world than Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between.
Okay wow… you were so engrossed you forgot about the quote!!

Awesome review honey, I will be adding this one to the TBB pile! Thanks for the great showcasing!
And the giveaway!
Ms. Saare, great book! And I love the warning.. So if the missing quote was not enough… that warning is enough to send my credit card packing, lol!!!
Great job ladies!
Please count me in!

This sounds very interesting, especially if both guys are truly swoon-worthy. I always tend to lean toward the werewolves, but I'm openminded.
For Ms. Saare – do you prefer to write stories about born vamps rather than "turned" vamps?
Love the cover! Werewolves, Vampires and a love triangle hell yea! Love the Review!

Sounds like a great read! No Disco? Whay isn't Disco in this book? He should be in all her books! ROFL!
Gasp, I can't believe I haven't read Dead, Undead… yet and now I want to read this one as well. Darn it, FV hubs is already upset that I don't give him enough attention. Oh, well.
Nice review!
Loved Dead and looking forward to Crimson Moon even though there is no Disco.

Great review FictionVxn! I also loved the triangle. The hard part is that I'm rooting for them both. Caleb and Trent are both perfect for her. I'm glad that you enjoyed the book as well. I can't wait to read book 2!
JenM ~
I like both. There is so much you can do and so much you can play with, which is why I adore paranormal.
Psst…I'll tell ya a secret — I lean toward werewolves too.
Jessilyn ~
My favorite fairy tale — Rumpelstiltskin, without a doubt. It freaked me out then and still does now.
For everyone else who asked for Disco ~ I wrapped up the project I've been working on so it's back to The Renfield Syndrome. Hopefully you'll get more of him soon.
I absolutely love triangles but they are so hard on my nerves. I'm an emotional mess until the end and if both heroes are truly exceptional then it all the worse! This one is going to be a nail bitter…
I just got Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between. I'd love to read something else by this author too.

I love this kind of book and I can't wait to read this one. I with the other person I'm voting for the werewolf.

This book sounds like it goes outside of the norm for the genre. Yaaaaaaaa. Sounds great!

This definitely sounds like an interesting read, especially with a love triangle.

The plot for this book is eerily reminicent of a comic I used to read called Chasity by Brian Pullido. Vampires with blood status, werewolves under a geis to guard- awesomeness. I'm keeping an eye out for this book.

This sounds good. My question: If you could love either a vampire or werewolf, which would you pick?

I'd definitely choose a wolf. I've always been a fan of things that sprout fur and howl at the moon.
Not that vampires aren't wonderful too!
Sounds like a great read! It's been a while since I've read a book with a really good love triangle so I need to go check this one out!
Great review! Makes me want to read it!

Wow! Talk about your wake up call. I've never read anything by J.A. Saare, but I've been seeing high reviews of her work everywhere.
I must admit I just quickly skimmed the review – because I really want to read this one and not be spoiled!!! Looks excellent!
My question for J.A Saare is – What is your favorite paranormal book, or book in any genre? I always wonder what authors themselves enjoy reading.
I would really love to read this book. I love romance novel. I enjoyed the Twilight series. Please enter me in contest. Thank you. Tore923@aol.com
Hi Amanda ~
My favorite paranormal book is probably…darn, this is hard…Cycle of the Werewolf by Stephen King for horror and Beloved Vampire by Joey W. Hill for romance.
As for my favorite book, that would be East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I've always loved that book (and read it once per year).
Thanks for commenting and for your question.
Sounds like another book for my wish list. Sounds like an interesting story. I also skimmed the review as I don't want to know too much before I read it…..would love to win it.

I actually can't remember the last time a read a book with a love triangle in it, and I'm not sure I've ever read one with a vampire/werewolf love triangle. Sounds very interesting.
