After reading and enjoying the third book in the Tough Love series, I was more than a bit excited that Alec Drummond (actually I think all three Drummond brothers are getting books) would be one of the heroes in a spin-off series. Alec is Rick’s ex from Guarding Mr. Fine, and also some kind of food/grain/seed supplier billionaire. I’m not totally sure what he does exactly, just that his company is a big player on the international food supply scene and has lots of backdoor hook ups with all the alphabet spy agencies around the world. He’s mega important and a workaholic with control issues.
Gaige Owens has been sent in by Seth Lang and the CIA to infiltrate Alec’s systems and find out what is going on with mysterious shipments being sent to the Doomsday Vault off schedule. Oh, he’s not going in all secretive, Seth pretty much sets him up to get caught and then informs Alec that Gaige is going to be stuck to him like glue until they can figure out what is going on, he just doesn’t give them the whole story. Which means it’s up to Alec and Gaige to find out who is setting Alec up and why.
Gaige the hacker and Alec the billionaire control freak are stuck together against their will at first. Alec doesn’t do relationships and Gaige is still getting over the complete betrayal of his boyfriend/business partner. BUT, they are up for some smokin’ hot, dirty, sexy loving. They move from distrust and suspicion to cuddly lovers pretty quickly, not that I’m complaining…. For a man who doesn’t do relationships Alec falls for the studly computer hacker faster than I expected. From the way the book started out I kind of expected them to grump and growl at each other longer than they did. I didn’t immediately connect to these characters, but I enjoyed them together and thought they suited each other well. Not too much drama, and just the right amount of sexy times.
I will admit to be slightly confused over the seed storage thing and what Alec does exactly. I also wasn’t sure what the big deal was about off schedule deliveries to the big seed bank. Actually, I didn’t even know seed banks were a thing. I ended up finding that part to be quite interesting the more I learned and by the end and the big showdown it all finally hit me with a big AHA moment about why it was so important.
From what I understand Finn Drummond is up next and I have major grabby hands for his book. I WANT. Dirty Games, releases the week of my birthday in March next year so I’m sure I’ll nabbing that as a present for myself. In the mean time, if you are looking for a fast, sexy, suspenseful read be sure to add Dirty Deeds to your TBR pile. Final Grade- C+/B-
