Keegan is relaxing with his partner at a coffee shot when he is tackled by Brennan. Brennan saw someone with a gun and some lost instinct took over and caused him to save Keegan. Keegan is fresh off a long undercover assignment and thinks that Brennan is in on the attempted murder so they take him in for questioning. After watching Brennan struggle for a while, Keegan starts to believe that he is innocent and no way involved in the shooting. Brennan is recovering from a car accident that caused brain trauma but has jumped right into something bad and become a witness to this new crime. Under the guise of protecting the witness Keegan feels that he should keep Brennan close. It has nothing to do with any attraction he might have to him.
Despite being damaged and recovering Brennan is still no pushover. There are times when his will makes itself known loud and clear. His frustration at not being able to do normal tasks is evident but he is working hard to overcome those issues. He could have easily been passive and give up but that is not the character we are given. I thought that I might get annoyed with having a broken character like Brennan was described to be but that was never the case. He is written very well and comes off as likable and someone you can root for.
Keegan is pretty hot and alpha like when it comes to Brennan. Once it was obvious that Brennan was gay he jumped right in and took what he wanted. He was so protective and possessive of Brennan to the point that he didn’t like men around him. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Brennan, they were too early in the relationship for that, it was just that he wanted Brennan all to himself.
There is a suspense plot but since the book is just over 100 pages it isn’t too hard to guess the bad guy. He came with a final confrontation that was a bit predictable. That didn’t really bother me because my main focus was on the relationship and that part is well done.
I thought that Ms. McKenna was a new to me author but once I looked her up on GR I realized that I have read her in the past and enjoyed her books. It has been since 2008 so it took me a couple of minutes to remember. I really enjoyed this one too and think Brennan and Keegan would make a great series couple. I wonder if we could convince Ms. McKenna to write more stories about them? I would certainly pick them up! Final grade- B
His eyes flew open. He glanced down his body at the sheet not tented about his groin. Fuck. “I’m not…Please tell me…”
Brennan snorted above him. “The bullet went through your shoulder, Keegan, not your spine. Your dick is just fine.”
