This was the first book I’ve read by Jill Shalvis and it definitely won’t be the last. I liked this book so much! This is the second book in the series and it focuses on the story of Dell and Jade. Dell’s a gorgeous, commitment-phobe, bed hopping, veterinarian, and Jade is his super organized, no-nonsense, quick-witted, office manager who randomly showed up in town 18 months ago.
There’s a great cast of supporting characters (hello Dell’s brother Adam!) and I enjoyed each of them as well. But what I really liked most about Animal Attraction was simply the hero and heroine. Something about Dell just made me fall in love with him right away. Here’s this gorgeous guy who can get any woman he wants, yet something about him just felt so down to earth and what can I say – I’m a sucker for a man who’s good with animals. He’s also got abandonment issues which translates to him running away from women at the end of a fun night. I loved Jade’s tough controlled exterior – it’s written in a way that is not a turn off at all. Yet when we’re given scenes of Jade alone fighting her fears, I felt for Jade so much. The banter between Jade and Dell was so much fun and their chemistry sparked on the pages. I loved how Jade didn’t make any apologies for her “standards” in the office.
Of course there must be a little conflict and Jade has to face her ultimate fear in the book. Ms. Shalvis took me by surprise with how she challenged Jade’s fear and it wasn’t what I was expecting. I really liked how this part of the story unfolded. My only complaint is that I feel Jade should have had a little more faith in Dell’s feelings for her – they could have easily looked each other in the eye and talked it out like the two intelligent level headed adults that they are.
Overall this book is fast paced, filled with great dialogue, a strong storyline, and most of all some really sexy scenes between our hero and heroine. I can’t wait for the next book in this series which hopefully is about Dell’s brother Adam. In the meantime I’m going to seek out other books by Jill Shalvis to see what I have been missing.
Adam flashed her a rare smile.
“Wow,” Jade said, smiling back. “You ought to do that more often. Oh, and line one. It’s Holly for you.”
Adam’s smile faded.
