May flew by for me and it was a fabulous reading month. I tried out some new-to-me authors and read some tried and true. In all I read 20 books last month. Here is the break down:
- 1 – 5 heart rating
- 3 – 4.5 heart ratings
- 11 – 4 heart ratings
- 3 – 3 heart ratings
- 1 – 3.5 heart rating
- 1 – DNF
Into the Dark by Gena Showalter – DNF
I know, I know! I don’t know why I couldn’t get into this. It’s getting great reviews but it wasn’t for me. I might need to take a GS break, clear my head
.
Stormwalker by Allyson James – 4.5 hearts
I loved this book! It was a unique, action packed Urban Fantasy and I could not put it down. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Sweet Surrender by Maya Banks – 3 hearts
This was my very first Maya Banks book. This was a very steamy read, I enjoyed it but I didn’t care much for the heroine. I’m eager to read the second in the series though as it comes highly recommended by FVBR reviewer Amy.
The Vampire Queen’s Servant by Joey W. Hill – 3 hearts
Another new-to-me author. This was very different for me. I’m pretty particular when it comes to BDSM and this one made me squirm just a bit. I’m not sure if I’ll continue with this series, but I may try another Joey Hill.
A Breath of Magic by Tracy Madison – 4 hearts
This was a sweet, happy romance with a heroine that I learned to love throughout the course of the book. It’s a feel good read for sure.
Skin Tight by Ava Gray – 4 hearts
I enjoyed this second on the series. I’m not sure it packed the same heat as Skin Game but I still enjoyed it very much.
Gypsy Crystal by Lorrie Unites-Struiff – 3 hearts
This was a paranormal romance with some good suspense and a bit of gypsy magic. An enjoyable read.
Stranger by Megan Hart – 4 hearts
Megan Hart never misses for me. I’m a shameless fangirl.
Assassin’s Honor by Monica Burns – 4 hearts
A little different from what I’m used to in a paranormal romance. An honorable assassin.
Enlightened by J.P. Barnaby – 4.5 hearts
The message in this book was quite powerful and the author did a wonderful job of capturing the excitement of first love as well as the difficulties young gay teens face today.
Deeper by Megan Hart – 4 hearts
Another Megan Hart winner for me. A little different from what I used to from her but still a great read.
Sanctuary Unbound by Moira Rogers – 4 hearts
Oh my broody vampire lumber jack. Adam Dubois is the man/vamp. A sad moment or two, very sexy scenes, and great action.
Edge of Moonlight by Stephanie Julian – 4 hearts
I fell in love with the hero and heroine in this book. Their chemistry was really good and I really enjoyed this third book in the series.
Tempted by Megan Hart – 5 hearts
Oh yes, another 5 star read from Ms. Hart. Big surprise I know. This was one of the most intense MH books I’ve read and one of the first that left me worried about the future of the main characters. I didn’t leave this book thinking all would be ok. I’m eager to read Naked.
The Dark Highlander by Karen Marie Moning – 4 hearts
I’m finishing KMM’s Highlander series before the final book in the Fever series (Shadow Fever) is released in December. I’ve been told there is some useful information pertaining to the Fever series in this series so I’m finishing looking for it! The first three books were just ok for me. I thought I had read the 4th but apparently I haven’t darn it. I will say Dageus MacKeltar is it for me. Wow. He owns me. Yeah.
The Immortal Highlander by Karen Marie Moning – 4 hearts
Oh my Adam Black. He doesn’t rule me like Dageus but he’s a close second. I’ve had no miraculous revelations about the Fever series while reading this series but dayum, these boys are hot!!
Moon Sworn by Keri Arthur – 4 hearts
Good bye to Riley Jenson. This book was bitter sweet. Sad to see it end but glad the author decided to wrap it up while it was still fresh. This has been a favorite series of mine and Moon Sworn was everything I’d hoped it would be for Riley.
Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane – 4.5 hearts
Wow, just wow. This was such a different Urban Fantasy. Amazing and I’m still thinking about it. Review coming soon.
Veiled Desire by Alisha Rai – 3.5 hearts
My first Alisha Rai read! A very sexy, relationship based novella. Sets up for the next book nicely. Review coming soon.
Veiled Seduction by Alisha Rai – 4
Again, focused on romantic relationship development. Very sweet and very sexy! Review coming soon.
That was my reading month for May. Hope you all had a great month! What did you read that just blew you away?
Daegus – YUMMERS!!!
Nice month girlie!!
Mandi–I know!! I think he might have bumped someone down on the book boyfriend list. He's pretty close to my main man Barrons! I really must commit my list to the blog at some point.
Okay, I so have to read more of the HIghlander series. I've only read the first. Love KMM.
Lisa–Yes, I really love KMM. I think the Highlander series gets better after book 3. JMO though.
Great reading month! I've seen reviews for A Breath of Magic, I might give that one a go
Wow – that's a lot of books! I really need to remember to get Enlightened next time I'm TBR pile shopping.
An incredible reading motnh FV and Dagues, I want him any place, any time, any where! Adam is one of my favs too, I can still remember the scene in bk 1 where he is a blacksmith, with all that sweat rolling gown his muscles *parched now* I feel that Spell Of The Highlander is THE book that contained information regarding the FEVER series. I think I'm just going to re-read Spell and then the FEVER series in the fall, so everything is fresh in my mind…the new teasers in the KMM newsletters are seriously throwing me off, don't know where Mac is heading now.
Ava–Yes! Do check out Enlightened. It's a really good read. Mild cliff hanger at the end will leave you very ready for the next book.
Leontine–I'm in the anytime, anywhere camp too! Dagues MacKeltar owns me!! And those newsletter teasers? If I could burn them I would. They seriously piss me off. LOL
Great reading month, FV!
Do you know if Tempted is Naked's prequel, or can Naked be read as a stand alone?
Those Highlander's sound really, really good. =)
Great month! I see you liked Unholy Ghosts. I'm tempted by that one. Karen Marie Moning apparently really likes that series too.
Julie–YES, Unholy Ghosts was a big step out of the box in UF and I really enjoyed it. It made me squirm a few times, but that's part of what I liked about it.
Great list of books! Several of them I really want to read.
I have an award for you:
