Reading Round Up – June 2010

Summer is here!  Yay!  For some people that means a slow down in their reading due to more outdoor activities, kids being out of school etc.  The season doesn’t usually affect my reading time—I’m a champion sneak reader—but I’ve still created my own reading challenge for the summer anyway.  I’ve committed to catching up on some series reading.  Here is what is on the agenda so far:

  • Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews– DONE
  • Shifter series by Rachel Vincent
  • Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs
  • Chicagoland Vampire Series by Chloe Neill

I think this is doable and I look forward to finally reading these.  They have been on my TBR too long!

Here are the stats for my June reading round up:

  • 1 – 5 heart rating
  • 1 – 4.5 heart rating
  • 5 – 4 heart ratings
  • 2 – 3.5 heart ratings
  • 5 – 3 heart ratings

Kane by Eliza Gayle – 3.5 hearts
This is the first book I’ve read by Eliza Gayle and I really enjoyed it. I’ll be reading Lucas soon and I’m looking forward to Malcolm’s story…he’s yummy!

My Avenging Angel – 3 hearts
This was a short, sexy story.  Had a little problem with the heroine but overall, an enjoyable quick read.

Colters’ Woman 1 by Maya Banks – 3 hearts
A really sexy read, but not sure if this is my thing or not. (3 brothers who share) Had to read the next book to be sure. :)

Colters’ Lady 2 by Maya Banks – 3 hearts
Another sexy read, again, 3 brothers who share…different brothers though.  I didn’t hate it but I don’t think I’ll be picking up anymore books along this line, just not for me.

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater – 3.5 hearts
I was excited to finally get the chance to read this book.  It’s gotten lots of praise.  I enjoyed it very much but it was a very slow start and I really have a hard time with books that don’t grab me from the beginning.  I didn’t really get into this one until around page 170.  I’ll be reviewing the sequel, Linger this month.

Crimson Moon by J.A. Saare – 4 hearts
This was a very sweet paranormal romance.  I really do like the author’s style and will continue to read more from her.

Heart of a Huntress by Crista McHugh – 3 hearts
A quick, sexy, action packed PNR.  Sexy growly werewolves…nice!

Tempting the Enemy by Dee Tenorio – 4 hearts
This was a really good paranormal romantic suspense!  I was caught by surprise by this one, not your typical PNR.  I loved it!  I want more.

Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews – 3 hearts
I thought, “What’s all the fuss about?”  I was told to keep reading so I did.

Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews – 4 hearts
Found out what all the full was about.  Wow.

Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews – 4.5 hearts
Amazing!  One of the most unique, creative series ever.  I am officially a fan.

Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews – 5 hearts
O.M.G.
I don’t even have words at this point.  By far the best book in the series, I don’t know how the authors will top this one. Amazing.

Shadow Bound by Erin Kellison – 4 hearts
I thought this book was YA when I first got it.  It’s not, it’s a really good (adult) paranormal suspense.  There was some romance but frankly, it could have done without.  The world building and suspense are what stood out for me.  You need to read this one.

Crazy for Love by Victoria Dahl – 4 hearts
This is my second Victoria Dahl book.  This was a fairly light read, very sexy and I adored Max and his weird OCD tendencies.  Review coming soon.

That’s my June in books!  Looking forward to an amazing July.

Now, you’ve seen my reading challenge list.  I think I have time for one more series on my summer reading agenda.  Tell me, what series would you recommend?

  1. I love Kate Daniels and Mercy!!! You'll LOVE Mercy!!! I haven't read Chicagoland vamps yet either but am gonna :P

  2. I've only read Magic Bites…I'm so behind with Kate. Also I need to read Mercy's series and Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series.

I'm planning on reading C.L. Wilson's Tairen Soul series and basically the list keeps going on and on.

I'm also planning on re-reading some of my favorite series i.e.: Dirk & Steele by Marjorie M. Liu, Dark Hunters by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Vampire Huntress Legends by L.A. Banks…Even though I've read them all I haven't completed them entirely and I'd still love to have the reviews on my blog.

Okay, let me stop rambling =) Great reading month!!

  3. MIND GAMES!!!!!

I'm also so excited you are reading Mercy and Chloe Neill. I shall stalk you!!! umm..even more than I do now ;)

Nice month..my reading is def taking a hit this summer..all this family time stuff ;)

  4. I have Shiver on my TBR. I just need to buy it! ;-) There are several on your list that I can't wait to read.

  5. What a month for you girl!!! =) Thanks for sharing!

Woot Woot Victoria Dahl! LOVE HER!

  6. Nice lot last month! If you really haven't read Mind Games, I'd have to agree with Mandi – you have to read it! I'm reading Mercy Thompson right now and I'm hoping to read Rachel Vincent and Chloe Neill too this summer!
    Happy Canada Day! ;)

  7. Julie & Mandi–I have Mind Games on my Kindle and I WILL read it very soon. I've heard such great things about it.

  8. Great reading month, and it looks like you'll have and awesome summer – those series are some of my faves!

I second (or third) Mind Games – loved it!

  9. Great reading month FV!And as for another series…C.L. Wilson with her Tairen Soul series…might that be something for you? I just came from Smexybooks and there I was reminded of a few series sitting on my shelves too that seriously needs some TLC from me.I've got LOTU series from Showalter – Demonica series by Ione – Guardians series by Brook & Kate Daniels series by Andrews. That should keep me quite occupied this summer if I choose to read them all LOL

Anyhoo….good luck with your summer challenge! For me the summertime just means reading outside, sun on my face and preferably some wind to cool down with and a glass of tropical juice on the table :)

  10. Looks like you had a great reading month, FV! I really need to pick up the Kate Daniels books too! I like the idea of your summer reading challenge. Maybe another series for you could be Lorelei James' Rough Riders series (contemp cowboys) to feed your – if I remember correctly – new love for cowboys?
My own list would have so many series I want to read or finally finish, like Josh Lanyon's Adrien English, Gena Showalter's LOTU, Larissa Ione's Demonica, Sydney Croft's ACRO, JR Ward's BDB, Jeaniene Frost's A Night Huntress and many more. Just not doable in one summer, lol!

  11. Leonine–Yes, the Tairen Soul series is one I definitely want to get to! Thanks for reminding me. :)

Janna–I'm actually in the Middle of Rough, Raw, and Ready by Lorelei James. I do like the cowboys LOL. But, this is a menage and I'm not totally convinced by it. I'm going to try another book in the series though. You have lots to keep you busy this summer, get crackin' girl!! *cough JFrost*

  12. Too funny! I had the exact same reaction to the Kate Daniels series as you did. Also, I just had to laugh at your comment about Colter's Woman: A really sexy read, but not sure if this is my thing or not. (3 brothers who share) Had to read the next book to be sure. :) You crack me up!
