Reading Roundup July 2010

My summer reading challenge is coming along nicely.  I just started Prey in Rachel Vincent’s Shifter series (or is it Werecat series?).  I’ve already read Shift, the 5th book, so when I finish Prey, I will be done with the series to date.  I really look forward to the release of Alpha in October.  I’m nervous.  Last book in the series and it’s going to be heart breaking.  There’s just no way around it.  Help me decide,  do I read Mercy Thompson next?  Or Chicagoland Vamps?  I can’t decide, you decide for me.

  • Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews– DONE
  • Shifter series by Rachel Vincent – One more book and I’ll call this one DONE!
  • Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs
  • Chicagoland Vampire Series by Chloe Neill

Here are the stats for my July reading roundup:

  • 2 – 5 heart ratings
  • 14 – 4 heart ratings
  • 1 – 3.5 heart ratings
  • 2 – 3 heart ratings

A really witty, funny read. I’m hooked and I’m going to read Dakota Cassidy’s Accidental Vampire series ASAP.

A wonderful debut and a very sexy retelling of classic fairytales.  Loved it!

I liked this one but missed the cowboys.  Keely is one of my favorite characters in the series.  Glad to finally read her story.

Love Kane and am glad he’s no longer going by the name Buck. LOL.  I think I’m still more partial to his twin though.

This will stay with me for a while.  Review coming soon.

Wolf Signs (Granite Lake Wolves, #1) by Vivian Arend
3 hearts

This was part of the Under The Northern Lights anthology released in print early August.  It’s the first book in the Granite Lake Wolves series.  The heroine was deaf which made for an interesting dynamic.  Enjoyed this one.

Wolf Flight (Granite Lake Wolves, #2) by Vivian Arend
4 hearts
Another story in the The Northern Lights anthology and the second book in the Granite Lake Wolves series.  Really enjoyed this one.  Loved that the hero was not the typical alpha male.

As you can see, I got distracted with the sexy cowboys this month.  I’m not sorry.  *waggles eyebrows*  Lots of great books on my TBR for August as well.  Did you have a good reading month in July?  What’s on your August TBR?

  1. Quite an impressive list, FV!

As for my August TBR list – I need to pick up Awakened by a Kiss next week, and I want to read Cameron Dane's newest – Devlin and Garrick. That one's been calling to me for a month. I read a couple of Jack Greene's short m/m stories in July and really enjoyed them. They're short and hot, perfect quick reads. So I've added his newest to the August TBR list. And there's a Samhain recent release with a yummy looking cover featuring 2 hotties kissing and a chocolate dipped strawberry that I just can't pass up. ;) I think it's called Just Desserts.

  2. Oh nice TBR Ava!! Hotties, kissing, deserts, I'm in!!

I'm hearing about Jenna Byrnes & Jude Mason in the blogosphere and I'm thinking about trying out their Untamed Hearts series. But, right now I'm kind of on a cowboy kick. Any good m/m cowboy recommendations?

  3. I'm so behind I need to get on the Rachel Vincent reading bandwagon.

  4. TA Chase has a great m/m cowboy book at Samhain titled Bound by Love. I rode horses for years, and let's just say I will never look at a pair of crossties the same way again. ;) JL Langley's Tin Star and The Broken H (both at Loose Id) are supposed to be wonderful. Haven't read them yet (…and I call myself a fan girl *hangs head in shame*) but everyone I know who has loves them.

I haven't read anything by Byrnes and Mason yet. I need to try them, though. Maybe they'll make the Sept TBR pile.

  5. I need to read City of Ghosts…and Vivend Arend sounds like fun reads!

  6. KC–Yes, hurry up! Alpha is being released on October. Hurry!

    Ava–thanks for the recs!

Mandi–I am still feeling City of Ghosts.

  7. oooooh please read the Mercy series!!! soooo good =D

Love me the shifters series (or werecats) I never know…

    ALPHA is amazing!! =DD

  8. Whoa!
Go for Mercy Thompson. It's my fave series ever and Mercy RULES!

  9. I haven't read the Chicagoland Vampires series yet but Mercy Thompson is an awesome series.

  10. Tough choice… Mercy Thompson and Chicagoland Vampires are both really good. Flip a coin!

  11. You have to read Chicagoland Vampires next. I adore that series. I need to start Mercy Thompson and have books 3 and 4 left to go on Kate Daniels. So many series to start! (Next up is Kresley Cole.)
