Welcome to What-To-Read Wednesday. Each week our Fiction Vixen reviewers will tell you about a book they think you need to read ASAP. This week Angela recommends:
Lumberjack In Love by Penny Watson
This book kept popping up in my GR and Twitter feeds a couple of weeks ago. And let’s be honest here, it’s about a bearded lumberjack so OF COURSE I was one-clicking.
This novella is super sexy and very, very sweet, and also pretty well done for the short amount of page time (it’s about 100 pages). At first these two characters clash because she’s a total city slicker who’s obsessed with her Starbucks and he’s a burly, hairy, nature loving Vermont man.
Marcus opened the front door and ushered her inside. “She’s got a point. It is healthier to live up here.”
He banged the door shut behind him. “Boring-er is not a word.”
“It should be. It could be the Vermont state word. ‘Welcome to Vermont, Where It’s Boring-er Than Wherever You Live.”
But it’s not too long before he starts thinking about her like this when she gets all sassy:
He wanted to snag a whole handful of that saucy hair, wrap it around his fist, and pull her back to him. Slam her up against his chest. Rub his beard all over her face and growl at her until she whimpered.
Wowser. Then they kind of start getting playful with each other. Which I like in my romance. It can’t be angst all the time. Occasionally I just want some playful, fun banter.
“Let’s go, Flatlander. TIme to see my log.” He shot her a wicked smile.
Ami waited for him to say cabin, but he didn’t.
Did I mention that Lumberjacks are studs in the sack? No? Well, they are.
“Oh my God, you’re like the Energizer Bunny. Don’t you ever sleep?”
She opened her legs to allow easier access, and he smiled to himself.
“Sleep is for pussies. I have the sexiest woman in Vermont in my bed. I have better things to do.”
I loved these two so much. Such a cute story. Now you should all go one-click too.
“Damn you, Jordan. You have really gotten under my skin.”
“And onto your skin, ” she mumbled, as she humped the front of his pants. “Show me some wood, lumberjack.”
If you finish reading and find yourself missing Ami and Marcus already, well the author has a free Christmas Epilogue for these two on her website. Holiday Loving!
