Welcome to What-To-Read Wednesday! This week Jen recommends:
Act Like It by Lucy Parker
Act Like It was a Twitter buzz book and I am a fan of British humor. Richard is a prat and Lainie has to step and pretend to be his girlfriend in order to salvage his reputation. At first they are so hilariously awkward, I couldn’t stop giggling. Their dialogue is fantastic, snappy and witty. I just wanted them to bicker all the time and luckily for me they did that a lot.
Eventually Richard starts to look closer at Lainie and see someone he really likes. She doesn’t put up with his crap and he instills confidence in her. She likes that he says what he means. The love scenes are lighter but their relationship banter and tension more than make up for it, if you require that sort of thing.
It is an engaging book, so much fun and so well written. If you haven’t grabbed it yet, you should do that.
“And what words of wisdom did he offer?”
“He told me to grow a spine and get over it.”
That startled a laugh from Rachel. “He doesn’t beat around the bush, does he?”
“He bulldozes right over the bush.”
