Wild Thing by Tawny Weber is part of a two story anthology: Blazing Bedtime Stories VII.
Compared to her beautiful siblings, groomer Andrea Tanner always felt like an ugly stepsister. But when she’s left tied up and fuming, her prize pooch, Medusa, stolen, Andrea can’t help hoping her prince will come. And he does. Hunky P.I. Percy Graham arrives in time to save the day-and to remind her that he hasn’t forgotten the naughty night they once shared….
Percy Graham, Private Investigator, is ready for a much-needed vacation when his secretary calls him with a last-minute case. She wants him to track down a missing dog. He doesn’t want anything to do with tracking down a dog but his secretary is insistent and convinces Percy to take the job.
Andrea Tanner is an animal lover and the owner of a ritzy, upscale dog grooming salon. She’s dedicated to her business and cares for her clientele. Although she’s running a successful business, she still has some self-esteem issues.
When sexy Percy Graham walks into her establishment and finds her tied up, and discovers the dog he’s supposed to recover has been dog-napped, things take an interesting twist. The rare show dog could be a pawn in messy divorce. Percy and Andrea are determined to find the pooch, and return her to her rightful owner. What follows is a series of crazy, comical events as they are hot on the trail of dog-nappers and hot for each other.
While the romance between Percy and Andrea was cute, I really liked the reluctant friendship that developed between Medusa the dog and Percy. Percy has a hard time acknowledging that Medusa, a Chinese Crested is even a dog. Let’s just say he’s less than impressed with her “dogginess”. The two of them eventually come to an understanding and become close. It was quite cute.
What Didn’t Work
This might sound heartless but I get tired of heroines with self-esteem issues. Yes everyone has a bout of that here and there, but it’s getting hard and harder for me to tolerate. Just a me thing I guess? This romance would have worked a lot better for me with a more self-assured heroine.
Wild Thing is a fun, quick read. It felt a little like a romantic sitcom with all kinds of hijinks. Percy and Andrea are lovers reunited and their reunion is a little crazy and a little steamy. Although enjoyable, it felt a little too silly at times and so the romance didn’t completely work for me. They mystery took a few twists and turns, I enjoyed the humor.
