Part II of the serial finds Devon and Zach returning to Zach’s house. We get a glimpse of the Zach’s aloofness in that his driver is very suspicious of Devon. Zach admits to her that he has never brought a woman home before thus causing the doubt from someone who works for him.
Zach is clearly a kinky, dominated dude and shows it with his actions. He fights his attraction to Devon and makes it a point to tell her that she isn’t like his normal women. Devon challenges his notions of what his type is and tells him to bring it on. I like how she showed a bit of sass but once Zach took over she was all submission.
Part of my struggle with this serial, to this point, is getting into Zach’s head. He is extremely mercurial and through these first two parts I don’t really know why. The only strong emotion we have seen from Zach, outside of the bedroom, is when Devon asked about him driving. At the time Devon knew she had touched on a nerve but nothing else was mentioned. Zach has warned her that he does not do gentle but the reason behind that is unknown. I am having a hard time identifying with Zach because of how closed off he has been. I love the hot sex as much as the next person but at some point I need to know why Devon should be involved in the hot sex. So far Zach has not displayed a stunning personality to go with his bedroom skills.
I think we might be getting to the point where we will get to know Zach better as this part of the book ends abruptly and with a scene that had me on the edge of my seat. I look forward to the confrontation that I expect will start Part III of the book.
He looked as if he were daring me to run, the corners of his lips curling up with a hint of mockery. “I don’t care for vanilla sex.”
