Mini Review: Because You Are Mine Part V: Because I Said So by Beth Kery

When we last left Francesca and Ian they had finally consummated their relationship.  The scenes were hot and well worth the wait but I was ready to get back to the banter that has made the series so great.

This installment was all about learning more from each other.  Ian opens up a little on his business and Francesca opens up about some things in her past.  This shows some progression in their relationship; at least something beyond sexual talk or sexual innuendos.  Francesca is making serious attempts to find out what make Ian tick.  Up to this point he has been very brief when asked about anything beyond what they have.  Now we are seeing some progress in other areas too.

“And of course you always want those who are most willing to please you.”

“Yes,” he said ignoring the sarcasm in her voice.  He’d led her to the bedroom suite and now turned to face her.  “Are you struggling with that, Francesca?”

“With what?”  she asked, confused.

“With entering into an agreement where the primary goal is to please me.”

“I do this to please myself,” she said, lifting her chin.

His amused glance ran over her face.  “Yes,” he murmured, touching her jaw with gentle, blunt tipped fingers.  She shivered.  “And that’s what makes you so special.  Because pleasing me does please you.”

What makes part of this series so great is Francesca is an independent person.  She wants to please Ian however she doesn’t lose part of herself in the deal.  She hasn’t changed her personality to fit what he wants.  This completely confounds Ian at times, but I think it is also what draws him to her.

They share a day of sightseeing in Paris when the topic of driving comes up.  Ian finds out that Francesca does not know how to drive and he decides to teach her.  This is very representative of what the books are about.  Francesca is innocent in many ways and Ian is world weary.  Without either of them being 100% aware of what is happening they are both getting something they desperately need from the other.

This part ended with a sex scene.  I will have to say that Ms. Kery is the master of the sex scene.  She writes amazing, descriptive and beautiful moments between couples whether in this book or one of her other books.  And even with all of my romance novel experience I manage to learn something new with each of her sex scenes.  This one was no different.

He didn’t like the way he’d felt exposed there at the end….weakened by his need for her.  Still, her mouth tempted him.  He kissed her with focused restraint, aware of her probable soreness.  Her sweet sigh against his mouth made him want to take her over to the bed and spend the night with his lips and nose buried in her silky, fragrant skin.

The fantasy of doing just that plagued him.  Instead, he gave her a final kiss and released her, needing to prove to himself he still had the ability to walk away.
