Mini Review: Because You Are Mine Part II: Because I Could Not Resist by Beth Kery

Because I Could Not Resist (Because You Are Mine #2) by Beth KeryI have a confession.  I have used several dirty words in connection with Beth Kery’s name over the past couple of hours.  Something similar happened last week and I suspect it will happen again next week.  These endings are killing me!

Because You are Mine Part II was just as explosive as Part I.  We left off with my quote from last week:

He suddenly moved his free hand, cupping her entire sex through her jeans.  He pressed.  Francesca whimpered helplessly.

“No,” he rasped, as if arguing with himself.  His dark head dipped again to her breast.  “I’ll take what’s mine.”

I kind of thought this was way too soon for Ian and Francesca to do the deed and I was correct.  They are interrupted by an urgent matter Ian needs to attend to.  It was a bit of bad timing because Ian has been fighting the attraction very hard and we saw a moment of weakness where he finally gave in.  I suspect weakness is not something he suffers lightly as he was pretty angry, at the interruption and the event, when he walked away.

In an attempt to control Francesca he offers her full payment for her work, ahead of time.  She realizes what he is doing and gets very angry with him.  This is clearly a way for Ian to do what he wants and not have Francesca suffer any consequences from it.  She is very much on the fence about the money.

We have our first scene with Francesca’s roommates where they all decided to go out and have a crazy night on the town.  In the middle of their night out Ian calls Francesca.  She is pretty surprised by the call because he had made it clear she was not to be at his house that night.  He gave her some excuse about business but she knew he was having a woman over.  Francesca’s roommates talk her into getting a tattoo but that is interrupted by Ian dragging her out.

She looked at him warily.  “Where are we going?” she asked.

“If you choose to get in, the penthouse,” he said succinctly.

Her heart started to play a drum solo in her ears.  “Why?”

“Like I said, you let your guard down, Francesca.  I told you what I was going to do to you the next time you did.  Do you recall?”

…….

Never leave yourself undefended, Francesca.  Never.  The next time you do, I will punish.

The extreme explosive and fascinating sex scene is stopped as soon as Ian realizes she is a virgin.  Tossed back to a place in her childhood where she constantly faced rejection Francesca turns around and walks out on Ian.

“What are you doing?” he barked.

“I’m leaving,” she replied, stalking toward the bathroom.

“Francesca, stop right this second,” he commanded, his voice quiet…..intimidating.

She paused and glanced back at him.  Hurt and fury rose in her, tightening her throat.  “You just lost the right to order me around,” she grated out.

He blanched.

She turned just in time to prevent him from seeing the gathered tears spill out of her eyes.  Ian Noble had seen enough of her vulnerability for one night.

He’d seen more than enough for a lifetime.

About Jen

I am happily married to a wonderful man and mother to 3 crazy kids. My major escape from the craziness at home is usually in a book. Preferably of the romance variety with a broody, alpha hero. I am also a huge sports fan. The St. Louis Cardinals have been my team since my grandpa introduced me to baseball at the tender age of birth. Go Cardinals!!

Comments

  1. I want to read more, that made me want more

  2. Dammit!! I’m not gonna wait. I’m reading the first two. I’m weak.

  3. I want to read this, but I can’t help but wonder if I really want to pay for all the installments and wind up paying a LOT for a complete book. If they were $0.99 each I would consider it, but I’m getting rather leary of ebooks which cost as much as/more than hardcovers and this complete collection is going to top out over what I want to spend. Don’t I sound like a price-whiner!
Still, if all the installments are well-reviewed I might knuckle under and buy them…

    • No, I agree with you, the price does hurt a bit once you add up the total. It’s why I rarely go serials. But this one sounds pretty good so I’m buying it as it’s released.

    • It is a tricky thing. I only see $1.99 coming out each week so it is almost like it is a bargain. But you are right. That is $16 for the whole book. Smart publisher.

  4. The last serial novel I read was The Green Mile (in like 1994) which was released 100 pages at a time over 6 months… and that was like crack to me. I was at the bookstore the day it came out every month. This time I might wait .., don’t know. The quotes make me want it now.
