Angela’s Recommendations

The Cursed by Alyssa Day ** [AMZBNSK]
I’m a big fan of this author’s previous series and couldn’t wait to see what she had coming up next. This is the first book in her new League of the Black Swan series and I can honestly say I think I may enjoy this one even more than her previous releases. The world building was fantastic, the pacing perfect, the romance and action scenes balanced nicely and the characters were wonderfully interesting. See my review here.

My Darkest Passion by Carolyn Jewel ** [AMZBNSK]
Ms. Jewel has carried on with this series through self publishing, for which I am ever so grateful. I’ve enjoyed every single release in the My Immortal world and was seriously bummed when it’s continuation was in doubt. Yay for self publishing! This is Harsh’s story and he will meet his match in a sexy, newly formed immortal trying to find her way in a world of mages, magic and sexy demons. Let’s hope the next release isn’t too far off.

Taken by the Duke by Jess Michaels ** [AMZBNSK]
Since the enemies turned lovers storyline is one of my faves the blurb for this one immediately caught my interest. I absolutely loved this heroine. One of the best I’ve read in a historical romance in awhile. Smart, level headed and completely open to having a very pleasurable affair with the hero. The H/h have a very erotic relationship that slowly turns into lovely romance. Review coming soon.

Fire Inside by Kristen Ashley ** [AMZBNSK]
I’m going to give you just a few reasons to pick this one up as soon as it releases on June 4th. Here goes…

  • Hop. I think he might be one of my favorite KA heroes. The man is sexy, sweet and can make a porn ‘stache look hot. I wanted to dive in and eat this man up.
  • Lanie and Hop have some seriously sexy love scenes.
  • You get to see Tack and Tyra. That’s always a good thing. I will never get enough of Tack. Never.
  • It’s KA, so there’s a perfect mixture of naughtiness, angst and romance.

There’s more.. but I don’t want to spoil anything so all I can say is make sure you have plenty of time to reading time because you won’t want to put Fire Inside down once you start. Joint review with Sophia coming soon.

Amy’s Recommendations

I had a month full of great reads!  Here are the top recommends from my May bookshelf:

The Queen’s Consorts by Kele Moon ** [AMZBNSK]
Think a touch of sci/fi with more of an ancient culture setting, two male consorts with an insatiable desire to please their queen and you have a sensual fantasy realm you won’t want to leave!  Kele Moon delivers another beautifully crafted menage in The Queen’s Consorts.  My review.

Down London Road by Samantha Young ** [AMZBNSK]
Once again Samantha Young delivers another poignant installment to the On Dublin Street series.  Fans will enjoy Cameron and Jo’s journey to love and happiness as well as revisit one of my top favorite heroes, Branden Carmichael from On Dublin Street.  My review.

Until Fountain Bridge by Samantha Young ** [AMZBNSK]
I loved Braden’s sister, Ellie, from On Dublin Street and now Samantha Young’s novella, Until Fountain Bridge gives us a glimpse into the history of Ellie Carmichael and Adam Sutherland dating back to her crush on him at age ten to the present.  This is a must read for fans of the series.  My review.

Fire Inside by Kristen Ashley ** [AMZBNSK]
Loved Hop, loved the drama, loved that Tack had page time. ;)  This was total cracktastic Kristen Ashley!  Joint review with Sophia and Angela coming soon.

Nature of Desire Series by Joey W. Hill ** [AMZBNSK]
I fell in love with Joey W. Hill’s writing when I reviewed her Arcane Shot series here at Fiction Vixen.  This month, I made a bold move into uncharted territory when I started her Nature of Desire series.  I am not a regular reader of Femdom and quite frankly it’s never really appealed to me.  That being said, if any author can convince me to explore that type of heroine, it’s Joey W. Hill.  Ms. Hill’s Dominatrix heroines are not the stereotypical controlling feminists you may find in other Femdom writing.  The heroes in the stories are not weak beta men either.  She creates a balance of strength in her couples and strips them raw emotionally on their journey to an HEA.  I feel like there is always a lesson to be learned in Hill’s writing whether it’s for the characters, the reader, or both.  Book two, Natural Law, has one of Hill’s most popular heroes, Mackenzie Knighthorse, and now I totally understand why.  His story and his character arefantastic and he shattered the preconception in my mind that all male submissives are wimps!  If you enjoy Ms. Hill’s writing or are looking for a more unconventional, emotionally gripping romance, I encourage you to give this series a try.

Samantha’s Recommendations

I’ve been working 12 hours days quite a bit, so my reading has been very slow. :-(

One Sweet Ride by Jaci Burton ** [AMZBNSK]
The 6th book in Burton’s Play-By-Play series but the first one I’ve read and I really enjoyed it. A hot race car driver and a smart and independent woman. Read my review.

Catherine’s Recommendations

Demon Guardian by Meljean Brook ** [AMZBNSK]
I have waited years to get this story and I am happy to say I was thrilled with it. Not only did we get the final climactic battle, we also finally got to learn more about Michael and see him get his HEA. I’m sorry to say goodbye to this series but I’m happy with how it all turned out. Review Coming Soon!

Avenging Angel by Cynthia Eden ** [AMZBNSK]
I had a lot of fun reading this one. Tanner and Marna had great chemistry together and the author twisted Marna’s fallen status enough to make it feel fresh and unique. If you’re in the mood for some shifter/angel action then check this one out. Review Coming Soon

Psy/Changeling Series by Nalini Singh ** [AMZBNSK]
That’s right, I’m recommending this series as a whole. I did a complete reread of all the book this month in preparation for the release of Heart of Obsidian. I wanted to be completely fresh on all the Ghost details we’ve learned to date.

I fell even more in love with the books this time around. Even the stories I wasn’t completely happy with the first time around felt more enjoyable this time. Maybe it was because I already knew what happened and didn’t have higher expectations, or maybe I just fell completely under the Psy/Changeling spell during my glut. All I know is that I’m even more exciting for the coming book!

New Species Series by Laurann Dohner ** [AMZBNSK]
I read the first book in this series, Fury, last year and was unimpressed by it and how similar it felt to a certain other series. *cough*Breed series*cough* I didn’t give it another thought until recently when a friend of mine guilted me into giving the series another shot and trying the second book. (That’s what happens when you push books on people. Next thing you know they’re pushing books on you too. It’s a viscous cycle. :P)

Well, my friend was pleased to see that I was hooked despite myself. Honestly this series had some kind of crack-like effect on me that cause me to absolutely inhale them. There were problems, it was similar to the Breed series–I know this, but I can’t deny the truth. I loved them. They were fun reads with hot sex. I didn’t love them all equally, but I enjoyed the majority of them.

If you’re looking for a new guilty pleasure or enjoy the Breed series, check these out.

Sophia’s Recommendations

It was a better month for me. Still not up to my old reading stamina, but I’m getting there. I’m working in a few older books I missed out on so it feels good to catch up a little. Here we go…

Deadly Sting by Jennifer Estep ** [AMZBNSK]
You know I’m seriously lagging if I get behind on my favorite Urban Fantasy series. But alas, I got behind. So, I finally read Deadly Sting. Jennifer Estep never disappoints me in the action department. Gin kicked ass and took names. My only disappointment is in the romance department. I just need to face facts. The romance arc moves slowly in this series and Gin’s happiness will not come easily. I’ve heard the next book is pretty good so I’m going to see if I can rustle an ARC. I need to see what happens for Gin in the romance department.

Against The Dark by Carolyn Crane ** [AMZBNSK]
This is the first book in Carolyn Crane’s new romantic suspense series called The Associates. Romantic suspense and I are not always good friends. It’s usually more miss than hit for me. But…Carolyn Crane. So I read it. I was really happy with the suspense and the romance. Wow! You can check out our What To Read Wednesday feature for more info and quotes.

Fire Inside by Kristen Ashley ** [AMZBNSK]
What the other FV reviewers said and more. I was so dubious about Hop based on what I knew of him in previous books. But man can Kristen Ashley change a vixen’s mind. Wow. Hop was so dang sexy. You need to read this one, trust.

That’s what we read and recommend in May. How was your reading month? What do you recommend?

Catherine- I am totally glomming on P/C right now. I am about to finish KoS. I need to hurry up though. I might have to skip the last one because there is no way I will wait until I finished with it before starting HoO.

I cannot wait for FIRE INSIDE! Can. not. wait!!
I would totally recommend TANGLED by Emma Chase. It’s funny and super sexy. Told from the male point of view which I thought was refreshing.
