Our March Recommended Reads

FV Monthly RecsThese are the books we read in March and want to recommend to you. These may be older, current or upcoming releases.

Jen’s Recommendations

Did I read in March?  My GR challenge is telling me that I am 9 books behind for my goal this year.  I don’t think that has ever happened before.  I blame Netflix and House of Cards for this.  Guess I need to do some catching up in April!  Anyway, I did have a couple stars in March and here they are…

Play by Kylie Scott ** AMZ * BN * K
This book was full of awesome.  I laughed through the whole thing.  Mal is nuts and Anne takes it all in stride.  See our WTRW for many awesome quotes.

Hell Bent by Devon Monk ** AMZ * BN * K
Hell Bent is the book that kicked off my March monthly glom and the closest thing I have seen to m/m UF.  Seriously, why hasn’t someone written a really good m/m UF series yet?  Maybe I just missing one?  See my March monthly glom for more about Devon Monk and Hell Bent.

Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews ** AMZ * BN * K
My audio recommendation for the month.  Renee Raudman is excellent with this series and even though I read the book once already, listening to it still tied me up in knots.

Hard Time by Cara McKenna ** AMZ * BN * K
Always a favorite, McKenna doesn’t disappoint this time either.  Hard Time is a romance with the hero starting out in prison and it was a rightful conviction.  Only McKenna can make a romance out of a prison setting.  Review to come.

Angela’s Recommendations

Play by Kylie Scott ** AMZ * BN * K
We just did a WTRW for this one, but I just had to mention it again in my monthly recs. I loved Mal so much and he totally had me laughing out loud almost all the way through this fun contemporary romance. Play originally had a release date of April 1st I believe, but Ms. Scott surprised everyone and released it early so if you’re looking for something fun and easy, with just the right amount of sexy and sweet, I think you will love Play.

The Kraken King Parts 1-3 by Meljean Brook ** AMZ * BN * K
Meljean Brook is releasing her fourth book in the Iron Seas series into an eight part serial  starting on April 15th, with the entirety to be released sometime in August. I’ve only read the first three parts so far, but I can already tell you guys that this is an awesome, fast paced adventure with two wonderfully strong protagonists. And the sexual tension between them is simply delicious.  I am absolutely loving this serial so far.

Reviews to come closer to release dates.

Beyond Solitude by Kit Rocha ** AMZ * BN * K
Beyond Solitude is a novella in the Beyond series set at the same time as Beyond Jealousy. We get to meet Ford and Mia and journey to parts of Sector Four we don’t normally see. Ford is all growly and grumpy and used to being a loner. Mia is just starting a new life after escaping her Patron in Sector Two. I loved the emotional journey between these two and also their personal growth  as they got to know each other. Not quite as erotic as the other books in this series, yet still super sexy.

Review to come closer to release date.

Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh ** AMZ * BN * K
I LOVE VASIC. That is all.

Joint review with Jen to come closer to release date.

Amy’s Recommendations

March was mostly a re-read month for me.  I had a couple of mediocre review reads and I began to feel like I was headed for a reading slump so I went back to two of my favorite authors; Joey W. Hill and J.R. Ward.  Also, I had two new releases that round out my monthly recommend list.

Knights of the Boardroom Series by Joey W. Hill ** AMZ * BN * K
When a reader wants an authentic, sexy, sensual, erotic BDSM story, they should look no further than Joey W. Hill.  Knights of the Boardroom features five corporate executives aka hot alpha males that share a history as close friends.  Together they help each man find the woman of his dreams and convince her that he’s the Master who can lover her; body, heart and soul.  Whenever I finish a less than stellar book in this genre, I’m always grateful I have Hill’s work to fall back on for a satisfying and enjoyable read.

Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward ** AMZ * BN * K
The BDB is what ignited my love for the PNR genre and I’ve never looked back.  I binge read the series, again, in preparation for The King which release on 4/1.  I look forward to April every year with the next anticipated release of the series.  I always feel like I’m coming home to the brothers and their shellans from the first read through of the latest installment to every re-read I complete.  No other series comes close to these badass brothers.  Long live the King and the BDB!

Play by Kylie Scott ** AMZ * BN * K
Stage Dive series by Kylie Scott is becoming another favorite of mine.  I enjoyed Lick but I loved Play!  Every gal should have a hero like Mal.  Scott captures Mal’s personality with such zeal, he can’t help but jump off the page and into your heart.  Play is such a sexy, delightful, feel good read.  All of us here at Fiction Vixen gushed over Play. Check out our favorite quotes in the WTRW post here.

Guys on Top by Darien Cox ** AMZ * BN * K
Darien Cox has become an auto buy for me in the m/m genre.  Guys on Top is his new release and once again Cox enthralled me with a new threesome of sexy men; an engineer, a plumber and a healer.  What a combo, but the “threesome” takes a different turn from the norm.  Check out our review, Amy and Jen Do Guys on Top here.

Sophia’s Recommendation

Play by Kylie Scott ** AMZ * BNK
I’m with the FV team on this one. Mal was a fantastic hero. Unfiltered, uncensored and so playful and sexy. This is one of the most fun books I’ve read this year.

That’s what we read in March. What did you read that you can recommend?
