“Blood or seed…something was going to spill.”
How do you overcome a physical and emotional betrayal of the worst kind? This is the question Thanatos, Horseman of Death, must answer and face what consequences will come in the aftermath.
“Ever since he’d been cursed as the Horseman who would become Death when his seal broke, he’d believed that his Seal was his virginity. He’d guarded his dick like it was the freaking Hope Diamond. He might have been an unpinned grenade ready to blow with sexual need, but dammit, he’d keep himself all virginal and shit.”
After eight months of hellhound venom sedation by his siblings, Than awakens with a vengeance and is out for the blood of Aegis Guardian, Regan Cooper. Months have passed since Regan’s deception and betrayal against Than and now he is determined to find her and kill her. After experiencing what Than believes to be a premeditated sexual violation in order to ignite the Apocalypse, he now learns that Regan is pregnant with his child. This revelation puts a serious dent in Than’s desire for revenge especially now that he has discovered his true agimortus. (a trigger for the breaking of a Horseman’s Seal) Furthermore, Than learns that his brother Reseph/Pestilence (who’s seal is broken) is actually the one who drugged both himself and Regan the night she conceived with the hope of breaking Than’s seal. Than knows that he must protect Regan and their baby from Pestilence but that does not mean he will enjoy the task or does it?
“Always before, when he was worked up from death and destruction, his instinct had been to kill. The dark desire was still there, a throbbing, malevolent urge, but he also wanted sex. He wanted to drop Regan to the floor and drill into her until he didn’t have the energy for violence. She’d awakened something in him the night she’d taken him, and there was no putting it back to sleep.”
What can I say that I haven’t already about the intricate mind and incredible storytelling of Larissa Ione? The one thing that comes to mind is consistency. Consistency in delivering a well developed plot with complex characters that you truly escape with into their world and don’t want to leave. Once again there is non stop action, grit, snark, and intoxicating sexual chemistry. Than is a multi faceted character that ignites the pages. In one instance he is lethal and deadly but we begin to see more and more of his caring and tender nature as the story and Regan’s pregnancy progresses. I questioned for months how Ms. Ione would be able to redeem Regan, yet she does to the point that you experience the internal torture she has imposed upon herself as a result of her betrayal. Her redemption is believable and as the reader I desperately wanted it to happen. Regan has never felt a sense of belonging to anything or anyone. Her chemistry and connection to Than was intense, electric and enduring and it brought great satisfaction in watching them heal their wounds together. As always when Ms. Ione develops the chemistry of her characters, the sexual tension is scorching. Than gives you a taste of it here:
“Holy hell, she made him nuts, made him angry and horny, spun him so hard he didn’t know up from down. It was getting harder and harder to remember why he was so angry with her.”
“You woke a sleeping demon, Regan. I tried to sate it myself, but failed. Now you’re going to deal with the consequences.”
Finally, Ms. Ione sets the stage for Reseph’s book with a cliff hanger that once again has me dying to get my hands on the next installment of this fantastic series. I’ve only touched on a small portion of what all Lethal Rider entails and for good reason; you need to read it! Larissa Ione serves up what I believe to be some of the finest work in paranormal romance and she continues to amaze and astound me with each release she pens. Delivering epic stories of good vs. evil with irresistibly seductive characters, you can’t help but fall in love. Even with a Horseman!
“Is everything okay?” Ares’s voice came from the end of the hallway. “Limos is nursing one hell of a headache, and Arik wants to shove an M-80 up your ass.”
“Kinky,” Than said, “but I’m new to the sex thing. I’m not ready for hardcore yet.”
