My reading habits are notoriously random. One week I will decide to read only Urban Fantasy and the next week I will shun that genre. There will be times where every book I read stinks and times where I love everything and everyone. One thing that also holds true is my love of the glom. Merriam-Webster defines glom as: to take or get (something), glom on to: to grab hold of : appropriate to oneself.
My gloms almost always revolve around an author. I find an author that is new to me and I go buy their entire backlist and spend a week or two reading it. Nothing can stop me until I am fully glutted on that author’s work. I decided to share my monthly glom will y’all in hopes that:
1) you might find a new to you author like I did and you can glom also
2) you can share your glom habits so I don’t feel so lonely and cray-cray
3) maybe you can steer me towards my next new-to-me author that I will glom on
April- D.B. Reynolds Vampires in America series
I’ve had these books on my kindle for a long time and when I saw Tori’s post on how real these vampires were I decided to give it a try. Four books later and I can’t stop.
Raphael– Raphael is pretty badass and within about 20 pages he offs one of his most trusted people. He apologizes before he does it, but it was brutal and I knew right there this would be the series for me. The writing drew me in immediately and I was interested to find out how this big baddie would fall for a mere human. Something interesting about this world is that taking blood and sex are very closely tied so when a vampire finds their mate they generally do not change the human. The can only take blood from humans and it would be too big a temptation to take blood from another human without sexual contact. So how would Raphael, one the most powerful vampires in existence, deal with Cyn?
I loved them together. Cyn takes no crap. She realizes the incredible pull Raphael has on her but at one point she shoots the bodyguard he has following her all because she needs to do something. She is a strong female and one very worthy of a vampire mate.
But beware, this one does not end with a HEA….
Jabril– Book 2 follows the story of Raphael and Cyn once again. For reasons, both of them were alone at the end of the previous book and now other vampires want to see the woman who so captivated the great Raphael. One of those vampires is the very wrong and evil Jabril. Cyn meeting Jabril brings Raphael back into her life. But will he decide to stay there?
Rajmund– I was on the fence about starting this one because it would be the first book where Cyn and Raphael were not the lead couple. While Raj is powerful, he wasn’t even the head vampire in his area. Sarah, the heroine, is a friend of Cyn’s so Cyn does make an appearance but what really stood out in Rajmund was the mystery. I was guessing until the very end!
Sophia– Ok, I will admit here and now that I read this one next because I heard it was mostly about Cyn and Raphael. And they didn’t disappoint! The next book is Duncan, Raphael’s trusted second, and I can’t wait to start it.
