The Book Bash was my first book conference and to say I was nervous was an understatement. I was pretty worried I might go all fangirl on an author and embarrass myself. I even considered using a pseudonym for the day. lol One of my favorite parts of the con though was meeting Tori from Smexybooks. She agreed to be my wingman and drag me away if I started to slobber or something equally terrible. Whew.
We got there around 9am and the doors didn’t open until noon so there was time to kill. During that time there were authors everywhere. We sat at a table and made eyes at the back of Kristen Ashley’s head. I went to the bathroom with Lisa Renee Jones (funny story, someone asked her to sign books while she was in the bathroom. And no, it wasn’t me.) and Katie Ashley. Had a chat with Emily Snow and Penny Reid while waiting in line. It was a pretty eventful 3 hours but they finally let us in!
Aleatha Romig was my first stop. She was very smiley and immediately recognized the blog. She was complementary and thanked us profusely for such support when her Consequences first came out. I couldn’t get any information about the third book, Convicted, out of her other than she did say there would be something good right off the bat. I WANT.
Next up was Alice Clayton and she is very animated. And she is a hugger. lol She jumped up and said she gets a ton of recommendations from Fiction Vixen. I was thrilled to meet her. The Redhead Plays Her Hand comes out in December (once again I WANT) and the blurb has me nervous.
Katrine Halle was the next stop and she is pretty damn hysterical. I mentioned to her that I might be on team Javier and she told me I was nuts. That’s ok. Ms. Halle would be someone fun to party with. At one point she was following people around and photo bombing. She just happened to photo bomb me and Paul Marron (YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT!! I stood next to Rehv).
At this point we decided to get in Kristen Ashley’s line because it wasn’t looking like it was going to die down at any point. Her line had some good features. Tori and I took turns holding our spot in the Kristen Ashley line while we jumped in for signings with other authors. And we got to meet KA’s sister who was just as lovely as her. She came around several times to hand out swag and candy and to chat. She is pretty hysterical.
In between KA’s line, I got to meet Shayla Black and her husband (at least I think it was her hubs. His name was Mr. Black). I mention that her book Dangerous Boys and Their Toy was my favorite of hers and really turned me on to m/m/f and she told me that it is very hard to market those books. She said that New York is way more receptive to m/f/m. I thought that was odd because most people I know that read menage prefer the m/m/f variety. But she was very nice also and very easy to talk to. We also chatted about how much input she has on her covers. Interesting stuff.
I slipped in a visit to Maya Banks’ table so I could get a book signed for Amy. She was very insistent that it be signed “Amy mine”. Since Ms. Banks didn’t blink an eye I bet she gets that a lot. Ms. Banks had the best swag. Some pretty cool cups, pens and notebooks.
After almost two hours, we finally got to meet the lovely KA. Folks, she is exactly like you would think she should be. She is gracious, polite and took the time to have unique, individual conversations with each person in her line. She insisted that everyone take tons of swag and got up and walked around her table to chat with and take pictures with each person. If I didn’t love her already, just meeting her would have done it for me. I was super impressed.
Our final stop was with Kele Moon and her husband. At that point I was on my KA high and didn’t think it could be topped. I was wrong. Kele was the sweetest, most lovable author there. She was generous with her time and swag and even gave us a signed first chapter of Wyatt’s book. I had to go home a reread some of her books after talking to her. Just because I wanted to!
Those are some of the authors that stood out for me. I had a blast at my first book con and met some pretty awesome people. The authors surpassed my expectations and were all wonderful. My feet were killing and I was only on them for four hours. I don’t know how people do it for days! I will be giving it a shot though because my next con, Coastal Magic, is coming up soon. I can’t wait.
I came back with a bag signed by most of the authors, a ton of swag, some signed books and some unsigned books that I will be giving away!
