Arresting Desire by Shayla Black

FBI Agent Jon Bocelli never stopped wanting beautiful professor Lucia DiStefano. She’s interested in taking her first lover, and he intends to be that man. When her past puts her life in danger, Jon risks everything to save her and prove this fling is forever.

This story falls into the the slightly older guy loves the hot smart young virgin category. He hasn’t stopped thinking about her since the last time he saw her – when he walked away thinking he wasn’t good enough for her. When he thought the type of sex he likes to have wasn’t right for the young genius Doc. Little does he know Lucia has been reading up on the type of sex she thinks she likes and is turned on by a dominant man. While I enjoyed the mystery plot in this novella, the erotic parts of the book were just meh for me. I understand there was a lot of history with these two characters so they didn’t have to really spend any time getting to know each other, but something about the sex between the two of them felt a little forced – not to mention at the end when Jon asked Lucia to wear his collar and it didn’t seem like they should be at that point considering the lack of BDSM sex explored between the two of them at that point. On Fire by Sylvia Day

When Deputy Marshal Jared Cameron investigates a series of arson attacks in a seaside town, the biggest blast of heat comes from sexy fire inspector Darcy Michaels—until their scorching after-hours affair is compromised by a secret from Darcy’s past.

By far my favorite in this book. I need to read more by this author. This story was super sexy and I believe makes this book worth the purchase. Deputy Marshall Jared is called in to help investigate a series of arson attacks and he hooks up with fire inspector Darcy Michaels. Everything about this novella was so well done – the mystery plot, the development of the characters, and the sex was scorching! Scorching! How Sylvia Day packs so much depth into so few pages is beyond me. A terrific novella that I highly recommend. Did I mention the sex was scorching hot? So well done in every aspect. This novella is going on my list of top reads of the year. Rating: A+

The Unwilling by Shiloh Walker

Mica Greer and her former lover, ex-FBI agent Colby Mathis once shared an intimate past and a powerful psychic gift. Now, they’ve been reunited by a bizarre series of murders—and an electrifying passion that could put them both in jeopardy.

Mica and her former lover, ex-FBI Agent Colby Mathis have powerful psychic gifts and share an intimate past. They’ve been reunited to try and solve a series of bizarre murders. The suspense story of this novella was very well done. I haven’t read any other books in this series, but the plot of this book definitely has me intrigued and wanting to read more. However, I felt the chemistry between Mica and Colby fell flat. Are there other readers of this series who can tell me if these two characters have appeared in previous books? Maybe somewhere else in the series the chemistry is built up between Mica and Colby? I also found Mica a bit annoying and whiny, so that kind of turned me off. But again, the suspense plot was well done and interesting and it kept me reading to the end. Rating: C-

Overall, this was an anthology filled with well done suspense and mystery and one hell of an erotic read in Sylvia Day’s On Fire. I must read more by Sylvia Day immediately!

Favorite Quote:

“And what is it we both want, Deputy?”

He didn’t move a muscle for a moment. Then his lips curled on one side in a wickedly carnal smile. His eyes glittered with fierce, hard lust. “You want a sheet-clawing, back-arching, mind-blowing fuck, and I want to pound my cock into you until I’ve come my last drop.”
