Guest Post + Giveaway: Miranda Baker – Bottoms Up

Fiction Vixen is please to welcome Miranda Baker today.

Bottoms Up, Everybody!

Back in the day, all I needed for a good New Year’s party was a bottle of champagne and someone to kiss at midnight. Now that I’m married and of legal drinking age, I can have those things whenever I desire. So how do I ring in the New Year now?

Most often, I celebrate the New Year with a good book. Oh, sure, I’ll have a couple of glasses of champagne at the neighbor’s house. I like to stand by her peach salsa taco dip and throw elbows when anyone gets too close. The kids get tired well before midnight (all but one – she’s just like her father) and we walk home. After I tuck them into their beds on the freaky-cold winter’s night, I crawl into mine. I stare lovingly at my pile of new holiday books (can’t say Christmas anymore, I married a nice Jewish boy) or I fire up my Kindle, freshly loaded with holiday gift money. Warm feet, new books, sleeping children and a champagne buzz – Happy New Year!

My husband wanders home a bit later, and given that I usually read erotic romance…we celebrate the New Year my other favorite way. *wink*

Comment to win, ends Jan 1 (winners announced next week):

How do you ring the New Year? Out on the town in your vixen high heels, cozy at home in slippers or somewhere in between? Random commenter will receive an e-book copy of either BOTTOMS UP or SOLOPLAY and a set of Romance Trading Cards for both. Happy 2012!

Bottoms Up by Miranda Baker

Come Again, Book 1
Love is the hardest limit.
“I’m an Aries. We don’t submit.”Bottoms Up
“I’m a Leo. Wanna bet?”

Destiny Blake senses that her boredom with blond pretty boys is about to come to a flesh-tingling end. Since her first love left her for a more experienced Domme, she’s honed her topping skills to a fine edge. Yet the idea of bottoming for the hard-bodied owner of her favorite BDSM club is an erotic challenge she can’t resist.

Destiny isn’t Johnny Delcorral’s type. Tangling with her, even for one night, is a dangerous proposition for a man with good reason for needing his women submissive. But he suspects she’s hiding a submissive streak under her dreadlocks and leather, and he hungers to make her obey—and curb her reckless spirit.

The battle is on, both in the bedroom and out. Under Johnny’s knowing hands, she is dismayed to discover she’s enjoying submission more than she cares to admit. And Johnny finds himself relishing her defiance instead of curbing it—and fighting a growing unease with his inability to find her boundaries.

Until one night he pushes one step too far—and comes hard up against the one boundary he never expected to find.

About Miranda Baker

It makes me chuckle to think about all the romantic short stories I wrote in my rather too literary creative writing classes in college. If only one of my professors had steered me toward popular fiction! On the other hand, if I had discovered my calling back then, I wouldn’t have gone to culinary school, I wouldn’t have met my husband, we wouldn’t have had three children and I wouldn’t have turned to erotic romance to get my mojo back during all this hair-raising kid raising.

Here in Brazil we celebrate New Year’s at the beach, drinking champagne and watching fireworks, you have to jump 7 little waves just after midnight for good luck. You’ll see almost 90% of the people with white clothes, you see, we believe the color you start the new year with will bring you the things associated with that color, so white is for peace and new beginning, pink and red for love and passion, yellow and gold for money, etc…

I love being a homebody on New Year’s Eve. Quiet alone time with my hubby followed by not so quiet alone time with him! :)

This week has been awesome so far. We rang in Christmas with a close friend, our three kids, great food and lots of wine. This week the kids are off from school and dh and I are off work. It’s been quiet and relaxing. I’ve been reading and writing and loving it.

    Happy Holidays to you!

First of all, “Bottoms up” sounds amazing! The “role reversal” aspect isn’t something I have come across much in that genre. Thank you for the opportunity to win a copy! New Years eve will be pretty low key. After kids are in bed, maybe some Marguerita’s with husband and a good movie. Then at 11:55 turn on one of those countdown shows to watch the ball drop. We’ll all have to remember to write 2012 on everything (that usually takes me awhile!)

This book sounds like it has a really interesting, action-packed twist :D I’m really curious about this book. I want to read what kind of trouble the characters get into :)

We tend to stay at home with a bottle of bubbly watching the new year come in on TV and toasting each other. In years past we did the party scenes with friends but no more.

I’m not sure what it says that I keep getting the urge to surprise my husband with New Year’s plans…and then deciding too many people will be going out that night! Ho-hum…a private party it is!

  7. Brenda D. says

We usually stay home and have non alchoholic daiquiries for the kids and regular daiquiries for me. We have a game night, watch some t.v. especially as it gets late (we have to watch the ball drop) and just celebrate being together. I hope everyone has a safe and happy new years!

I like the idea of playing games with the kids – they would love that! Not sure how long I’d last until I sneaked off with a book and my son sneaked off with his DS…maybe we’ll see!

Well, a couple of my girlfriends and I have decided to celebrate this year with a single girl’s New Year’s Eve party… a few bottles of bubbly, a movie, and lots of fun girl talk. Hangovers for everyone! :)

    Happy (safe) holidays to all!

Hi Miranda, your book sure sounds hot, and intriguing to me. After the extremely busy and hectic days of Christmas, I do long for a quiet weekend at home. So far, no appointments have been made, and I hope it stays that way. My boyfriend is a cabdriver, and he usually works this night (except around midnight), but he is thinking of staying home with me this year.
I just long for a new great book, some hot tea and nibblies next to me. With some lovemusic in the background.

I am the cozy at home girl. My hubby and I will pick a movie to watch together, snuggled up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and one of those baby bottles of champagne. If we are lucky we might make it to 11 pm, lol.

I just picked up my copy of Bottom’s Up over the weekend, Miranda, but would love a copy of Solo Play.

    Happy New Year’s Everyone

We branched out this year! We went to the movies and saw “Chipwrecked,” then stopped at a neighbor’s house on the way home. I am happy to report, I rang in the New Year in bed with a book (Crash into You by Roni Loren) because my five year old wanted to go home and go to bed.
