Guest Blogger: Kelly From Books and Kisses + Giveaway

Hi All, Kelly from Books-n-Kisses here. When Fiction Vixen asked me to write a guest blog I will admit I was scared to death. I think I actually had a bit of a panic attack. Who wanted to read about me or what I have to say. What do I write about? Aaahhh, so this is a little glimpse of the pressure that authors feel. So after my small panic attack I decided I would share my journey to meet a few of my favorite authors. Hope you enjoy my post.

It was a dark, gloomy morning. Okay it wasn’t it was a beautiful sunny August morning in Oregon. My day started like any other, breakfast, coffee getting ready for the day. But today was different. Today I was going to a book signing. Today I was going to get up close and personal with a few of my favorite authors. As I was driving up to the signing I had to say a little prayer that I didn’t go total fan girl.
Finally after an hour and half drive I made it to my destination. Jan’s Books Store. After getting over my nerves I realized that the authors where just people like me only with a heck of a lot more creativity.

I spent four wonderful hours with four wonderful authors and had a great time getting to know the authors better. I spent WAY too much money but got some wonderful new books. Now that I have the signing bug I am aready looking forward to my next signing. Which for me was the Emerald City Writers Conference

Here are a few Pictures from my adventure to Jan’s over the summer.

Wow – looks like you had a GREAT time, you lucky thing lol
There’s so many talented authors that it’s really hard to pick only one – but I think I’d say Carrie Ryan as I absolutely love her Forest of Hands & Teeth trilogy :D

    • Kelly Mueller says

      Hi Mary,
I have Carrie’s book sitting in my pile to read. I really need to get to them. I have heard wonderful things.

      Thank you for stopping by

Wow, that is a tough question to answer! I can think of about a dozen I would love to meet, but will say Karen Ranney. She’s a phenomenal writer of several genres and has a wonderful sense of humor that you often see peeking out in her work.

There’s not a lot of book signings in my area, at least that I am aware of but I would love to meet some of my favorite authors and new one too! I’m pretty shy but it’ll be nice to tell them how much their characters and stories mean to me.

Some authors I’d like to meet are: Kristin Hannah, Lisa Kleypas, Brenda Joyce and Karen Marie Moning.

Hi, Kelly! Living or dead author? I would love to meet P. G. Wodehouse but he died in 1974. Or perhaps a talk by Isaac Asimov but he died in 1992.

Of the living ones, I’d love to meet Terry Pratchett again (he has Alzheimer’s now), Jayne Ann Krentz (who was fun and informative), and Daniel Handler as Lemony Snicket (one of the funnest talks I attended). Actually, many of the YA and children’s authors were vastly entertaining – I loved Scott Westerfeld’s talk. Authors whom I haven’t met but would like to include the Butchers, Jim and Shannon K.

    GFC follower on both blogs.

  11. erinf1 says

I would love to meet Stephen King. If I could just sit down with him for an hour or two and find out what makes him tick and how he comes up with crazy and creepy stuff that he comes up with, I’d be a happy happy girl! I wish I had even just an eight of his talent!

I live in Asia; any authors like to come out visit? That would be super awesome!

There are so many authors I’d like to meet but a few of my favourites are Lisa Kleypas whose books are just awesome; Ashley March because she seems so nice & funny! & Brandon Sanderson whose book Elantris is my all time favourite.

Sending me a plane ticket would work too!

  18. Lexi says

I have never been to a signing but always think it would be a lot of fun. Unfortunately my husband and I have three kids under the age of two right now (yes there is a multiple there) so its tricky to get out and do stuff. Guess I will just live vicariously through you guys and be jealous of who you get to meet and books you get to pick up!
If I ever get to meet an author my top pick would be Karen Marie Moning. Love her Fever series and her Highlander series, the best of both worlds.

A fun post, and yes I am jealous!
Thanks for a chance in your giveaway!

I did have the opportunity to meet one of my favorite authors a couple of years ago. I met Charlaine Harris and was the nicest woman I ever meet. I had her sign 3 of my books, she gave a talk about the Sookie Stackhouse series, and her other books, and had the woman that does the audio books with her. She was very funny. If I could meet any other authors I would choose Laurell K Hamilton, Jeaniene Frost, Ashlyn Chase, JR Ward, and Lauren Dane. I love meeting famous people, so anyone would be cool. Thanks for the giveaway and the chance to win the GC.
