FV Reviewer Recommendations From Their September 2013 Shelves

FV Monthly RecsI’m a little late posting our recs this month even though the girls got all their recs in on time. It’s me, I’m late. I’m sorry.

Here we go…

Amy’s Recommendations

It’s an extremely short list for me this month but in this instance quality outweighs quantity.

The Corrupt Comte by Edie Harris ** [AMZBNSK]
I’ve been burnt out on Historical Romance for a while now and then I picked up this gem.  The Corrupt Comte is such a passionate, beautifully written story.  I was captivated by the author’s voice within the first few pages.  The characters are so easy to invest in and when I finished I only wanted more.  This was my first read by Edie Harris but I will definitely be reading more from this author.  Check out Angela’s recommend of The Corrupt Comte in our What-to-Read Wednesday post.

Angela’s Recommendations

I can’t believe it’s already the end of September. Seriously.

The Corrupt Comte by Edie Harris ** [AMZBNSK]
This book has been all over GR and twitter so I’m sure you’ve already heard of it, but if you haven’t all I can is The Corrupt Comte is one of the sexiest, most sensual historical romances I’ve read in ages. The love scenes are so well done that you don’t want them to end. The romance between these two unlikely characters is so sweet that you just ache for them to be together. And it has one of the best declaration of love scenes I’ve ever read.

Gaspard’s voice was hoarse as he doggedly continued. “Claudia is the best of me, of my life, and I…” He broke off, shaking his head as he switched to French once more. “Even knowing I’ll spend the rest of my days with her, it isn’t enough. There are never enough days with the person you love the most.”

See WTRW post here.

Kinked by Thea Harrison ** [AMZBNSK]
For those of you who are fans of the Elder Races series by Thea Harrison, but who haven’t exactly been excited by the prospect of having Aryal as the main character in the next book listen up…. THIS BOOK ROCKED! Aryal and Quentin were amazing together. Kinked is a much more character driven story and Ms. Harrison did an absolute fantastic job exploring Aryal’s personality.

I loved the progression of Quentin and Aryal’s relationship from enemies to mates. They have a sexy, spicy relationship that explodes onto the page. There is also a banter between them that will have you cringing and laughing and loving them as a couple. This book is set to release on November 5th and you are all going to want to snap it up as soon as it comes out. Full review to come closer to release day.

Illumination by Rowan Speedwell ** [AMZBNSK]
This was a beautiful love story between a hot rock star afraid to come fully out of the closet because of his career and the recluse agoraphobic who after a physical and emotional trauma has shut himself away from the world. There is booze, drugs, rock-n-roll, art, misunderstandings, dirty video messages, two men falling in love and  some smoking hot sexy scenes. I loved it. Full review to come.

Jen’s Recommendations

September had me getting a year older and reading some good books.  What more can you ask for, right?

The Corrupt Comte by Edie Harris ** [AMZBNSK]
This book was hot and full of good angst.  There aren’t too many erotic historicals and this one hit every mark for me.  It also made me glom on Ms. Harris’ backlist which has some equally good books.  See Angela’s  WTRW recommendation.

Dirty Laundry by Rhys Ford ** [AMZBNSK]
I read the whole Cole McGinnis series on Angela’s recommendation.  I am still on the fence about Jae but I am hooked on Cole.  I love the crazy antics of Cole and have so many questions left in my head about him.  I look forward to more of this series.  Angela’s review.

Unbound by Cara McKenna ** [AMZBNSK]
Unbound has a hero so different than what I am used to from Ms. McKenna.  The book is focused on the two mc’s and no outside interference which McKenna does so well.  Review to come.

Touch & Geaux by Abigail Roux ** [AMZBNSK]
This is my audio recommendation for the month.  I listened to the Cut & Run series on audio in Aug and Sept.  Stars & Stripes and Touch & Geaux have not been released in audio yet so I had to reread them on ebook.  However, the first five books are out and if you are looking for a new way to experience this series I would recommend audio.  The audio, if possible, furthered my obsession with this series and these two men.

That’s what the FV team recommends from their September reads. Hopefully I will be back next month with some recs. I started Jagged by Kristen Ashley and I’m off to a good start for October.

How did your September reading compare? What can you recommend?

I also read Unbound this month. I was my first book by Cara McKenna and it was different from anything I have read before, but I liked it.

  2. Amanda says

I will be picking up Illumination if I can get it in eBook and The Corrupt Comte looks like a very different type of historical than I am use to but sounds very intriguing.
