Fiction Vixen Reviewer Recommendations: January 2012

Fiction Vixen Reviewer Recs

January is winding up and it’s time for Fiction Vixen Reviewer recommendations. These are books we read and recommend this month but they are not necessarily January releases.

Amy:

Make Me Shiver by Aline Hunter- This is erotic contemporary reading at it’s finest!  Substance with a bite and steam to rev up your libido!  Michael has such a strong, captivating sexy demeanor and he will suck you into this engaging story of placing complete trust in another person.
Fiction Vixen Review

Defying the Odds by Kele Moon- Ms. Moon not only has a gift of writing hot sex, but she delivers memorable characters and emotional connection in this small town story.  Clay is a gentle giant you will quickly fall in love with and he sure knows how to please!
Fiction Vixen Review

Darker After Midnight by Lara Adrian-  Jen posted a great review on the latest installment of the Midnight Breed series here at Fiction Vixen.  Hero, Sterling Chase did not disappoint and his pairing with Tavia was smoking HOT!  The action took off with the first chapter and did not let up until the end.  I believe this is one if not the best book in the Midnight Breed series.  As I told Jen, I would reconsider breeding at my age with Sterling Chase!  So glad he got his well deserved happy ending with a fierce heroine!

The Bro-Magnet by Lauren Baratz-Logsted-This book is totally made of awesome and I have laughed myself silly! General Hospital, Gone With The Wind, Pier 1, barn opera, a cat that walks on a leash. OMG, this was a total riot and I’m so excited that the author has a sequel in the works!  An authentic and hilarious book about a clueless man’s quest for love and the mistakes he makes in trying to reinvent himself along the way.  You don’t want to miss this! Fiction Vixen Review

Jen:

I thought January seemed like a slow month but when I went back and compiled my list I actually had five books I really enjoyed.

Divided in Death (In Death #18) by J.D. Robb-  Since I listen to 3 or 4 books in this series, each month, I will usually have at least one of them on my favorites list.  Divided in Death is it for January.  This one was pretty emotionally intense.  Eve and Roarke were very divided on a particular issue and it was heartbreaking to watch them deal with it without the support of their partner.  Of course, they found their way back to each other but it took serious sacrifice on one of the sides to get there.

Moonlight in the Morning (Edilean #6) by Jude Deveraux- My first Jude Deveraux book and it was awesome.  Love the characters, the romance and the emotion it provided. Fiction Vixen Review

A Beginner’s Guide to Rakes (Scandalous Brides #1) by Suzanne Enoch- I read this one based upon Catherine’s recommendation and absolutely loved it.  Fun and witty, I couldn’t put it down.
Fiction Vixen Review

Fifty Shades Freed (Fifty Shades #3) by E.L. James- The final chapter in Christina and Ana’s story and it was a good ending.  The finally came around to what seemed like a relationship they could both work with.  It took a while to get there but it seemed to happen.  And the hot stuff in this book is off the charts!

Lothaire (IAD #12) by Kresley Cole- The list would not be complete without Lothaire.  He was everything I had hoped for and I got a bonus with his mate, Ellie.  She was awesome and such a spitfire.
Why We Fell For A Black-Hearted Vamp And His Bride

Samantha:

Bad Boyfriend by K.A. Mitchell – My first K.A. Mitchell and certainly not my last. Mmm Eli has my heart. I’d love for him to meet Angelo and Cole from Marie Sexton’s Promises series and the 3 of them could have a grand gay ol’ time.

Convenient Strangers by Cara McKenna – I get so excited by a new release from Cara McKenna. I love her writing style. I liked this book but I have to recommend it solely for the sex scene between Adam and Stephen. It’s probably one of my favorite’s read in recent months. But be prepared for an abrupt ending.

A Note in the Margin by Isabelle Rowan – I reviewed this last week and gave it an A. This book truly touched me in ways a book hasn’t in a long time. Heavy subject matter didn’t weigh this book down at all. Highly recommend!

Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis – This has been out since September 2010, but I’m just getting around to read this series. This book was a lot of fun with a sexy smart hero who can build things. *swoon* Mix in 3 sisters who are nothing alike thrown together under the circumstance of their crazy mother’s death and the good times ensue. An all around fun contemporary romance read!

The Bro-Magnet by Lauren Baratz-Logsted - I loved Bro-Magnet because 1)It’s told from a man’s POV, 2) he wears a tux to barn, 3) the BFF character is perfection; 4) I never knew ordering food at Subway could be so confusing.

Sophia:

It’s going to be a good reading year I can tell! Here are my recs for the books I read this month:

The Bro-Magnet by Lauren Baratz-Logsted - I seriously laughed my ass of reading this book. I haven’t giggled so much in a long time. I loved reading a romantic comedy from a male point of view.

A Slave To Sensation by Nalini Singh – I checked GoodReads and I added this book to my TBR in 2009. Why did it take me so long to get to this series? WHY? I’m hooked. You should be too.

Lothaire by Kresley Cole – This book lived up to my expectations. I worried that Lothaire would experience a personality transplant for the sake of his HEA. He’s still arrogant, and under-handed but Ellie can manage him. Great book, probably my favorite of the series so far.

Bad Boyfriend by K.A. Mitchell - This is my second K.A. Mitchell read and I think I’ve found a go-to m/m author. I loved Eli and Quinn together. This was romantic, and sexy and naughty. :)

Kowalski Family Series by Shannon Stacey: Exclusively Yours, Undeniably Yours, Yours To Keep – I love contemporary romances that focus on the couple falling in love without a huge amount of external conflict. I also love big family and kids in romances so this series really appealed to me.

A Brush of Darkness by Allison Pang (review for this book here)
The Shadow Reader by Sandy Williams: review of this book here
Vengeance in Death by J.D. Robb
The Last Twilight by Marjorie M. Liu
Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole

It looks like The Bro-Magnet is a hit with almost all of you guys!

@Jen – I hate that you’re so far ahead of me in the In Death series. You always tempt me with books that I’m nowhere close to getting to! Like the one with jealous Roarke–I want! I’m glad you loved A Beginner’s Guide to Rakes too. Are you ready for the next book? ;)

@Sophia – I still can’t believe you waited this long to read the Psy/Changeling series!

*whispers* *ducks and covers* I tried to ead the first book in the Pys/Changeling series and couldn’t finish it. I have a coworker that is an obsessed fan of this series and just gaped at me in disbelief.
