I have a favorite CC cream I wear almost daily, but I wanted to try something else with a matte look. I went to Ulta, looked around and decided on Born This Way Foundation by Too Faced based on the company’s claims:
From the Too Faced website:
This revolutionary foundation is infused with a potent combination of Coconut Water to naturally replenish moisture levels; nature’s resilient Alpine Rose to brighten the skin’s appearance and promote elasticity and Hyaluronic Acid for a smoother, more youthful appearance.
Let them think you were Born This Way.
MORE TO LOVE:
- Medium-to-full undetectable coverage
- Coconut Water helps delicately replenish skin’s moisture levels without overhydrating—for the look of radiant skin
- Infused with the resilient Alpine Rose to brighten the skin’s appearance and promote elasticity
- Hyaluronic Acid helps balance skin for a smoother, more youthful appearance
- APPLICATION TIP: For medium coverage, apply a small amount from the center of the face outward and blend with fingertips, sponge, or brush. Build to full coverage by layering as needed.
I am medium to fair with yellow undertones, generally warm to neutral. I had no trouble getting a match from their 18 available shades.
I like a more natural look and so I don’t usually go for full coverage foundations but this said medium-to-full so I figured I could get the look I wanted. Good skin care is important to me so ingredients like coconut water and hyaluronic acid get a thumbs up. I’m disappointed that this foundation contains no sunscreen.
This foundation goes on beautifully and evenly. It blends out well and is indeed medium to full coverage. I’ve applied with a brush and a damp beauty blender and I prefer the beauty blender application for this foundation.
The finish is matte and it works great for my normal to dry skin. Sometimes a matte foundation is just too drying for my skin, but once this foundation is set, it stays smooth all day.
I got all-day wear out of a medium coverage application. I’ve tested this foundation several times and it does not hold up as well on a hot day through sweat. It gets patchy and fades around my nose area and cheeks. Definitely not sweat proof.
I like a natural(ish) look from my makeup for everyday wear. I glam it up now and then, but for every day I want to look like I have skin, not airbrushed perfection. Born This Way will give you a nearly flawless look. It blurs lines, covers imperfections and makes your face beautiful. But if you want a more natural look, where your skin looks more like skin, then this foundation may not be for you. I love the look when I’m going for glam, but for every day I’d have to work a little harder during application to get the look I want or just skip it and reach for my daily CC cream.
I really do like Born This Way by Too Faced. Excellent coverage, nice finish, last well under normal circumstances. This is perfect for a more “made-up” look but not really an everyday foundation for me. This one stays in my makeup stash ready for when I’m ready to slay.
