Fiction Vixen is pleased to welcome author Terry Spear today.
When the Hero has Bite!
No, not vampires. And not werewolves either…this time. But the jaguars are coming! In jaguar shifter form!
So what do you get when you hook up with a hunk of a jaguar shifter?
A man who’s territorial. Comes with the territory. He’s a jaguar—sometimes. And they are definitely assertive. So what is the difference between a jaguar shifter and a jaguar? Jaguars will cross the borders of a couple or more female jaguars, that are also territorial. So they don’t share with another female, but they’ll happily share with a male.
That creates problems for a HEA. We can’t have happily ever after if the jaguar shifter’s got a harem! That’s where the human aspect comes in. Sure, there will be guys who won’t stick with one woman, even if they are strictly human. But Connor’s in it for the long haul once he finds Mrs. Right.
What works well for a man like that?
Love of the woods, preferably enjoys jungle habitats. Doesn’t mind a walk on the wild side. Can tolerate exotic foods. Doesn’t mind if she’s a bit growly, as he can be, too. And there’s the other side of the coin—loves to purr and loves to be purred to. Climbing trees is essential. Has to love the water!
But he assures me that if a woman doesn’t meet any or all of these qualifications, it’s all right. Because once she gets her kitty cat claws, she’ll have the natural urge to love all things jaguar.
If you enjoy Connor and Kathleen and Maya’s story—yes, two female jaguars, one male, but it’s perfectly okay because Maya is Connor’s sister—then you have more in store for you. SAVAGE HUNGER is based in the Amazon. JAGUAR FEVER is set partially in Belize. Nice jaguar jungle environments. And in that one, Maya gets her say, again. Like she didn’t have it in SAVAGE HUNGER already!
One other thing to consider, if you find a jaguar shifter, he’ll be protective. If bad guys come after you, the shifter’s got big kill teeth and wicked claws and he’s all too ready to use them. It doesn’t mean that he won’t have his moments of being a reluctant hero—at least when he was a kid in human form. Maya shares with Kat one of Connor’s not so heroic moments when they were kids. But generally, if you’ve got problems, they’re Connor’s problems. Isn’t that nice?
It’s the deeper stuff that counts. Let’s take a true story: Woman is engaged to be married. Fiance wrecks the car they’re driving in. She’s taken to the hospital with a broken ankle. He is so upset with himself for having hurt her, he won’t come to the hospital to see her or take her home! She had to get a taxi.
Woman dumps fiancé. Why? He was a great dancer, took her to super movies, and anything else she wanted to do. He was well off, and well, perfect! Except for in a crisis. My mother, yes, it’s a true story, said she broke up with him figuring that what if they got married and she was having a baby and he felt so bad about it, he disappeared for days?
So in comes fiancé, number two. He marries her. When my mother was giving birth to me, my dad internalized all her pain so much, he threw up. That’s being a hero. He was there for her…a little green in the gills, but he stuck by her side.
Connor is there for Kat through thick and thin. And that’s what being a hero is all about. Oh, sure, she’s watching his back, too. It’s got to be a mutually wonderful relationship!
So what do you think? Ready to grow some kitty cat claws and take a run on the wild side with one hunky jaguar?
