Review: Angry Ninja iPad Mini Case by Hooby Groovy

I know I’m pretty obnoxious when I’m awaiting delivery of a new gadget so some of you probably know I recently got an iPad mini. I am loving it so much! I like to take good care of my gadgets so I always invest in a nice case or some sort of protective sleeve. For my iPad mini, I chose the Angry Ninja iPad Mini case by Hooby Groovy.

The description says “case” but I consider this more of a sleeve since it’s used for storage of the device and the device has to be removed to use it. I’ll call it a case in this review though.

The Cute Factor

I’ve seen these cases before at Etsy and always wanted one for one of my electronic gadgets. I love the Panda cases, but Angry Ninja is my favorite and my iPad mini was begging for this cute (angry) case. The Etsy store is called Hooby Groovy and you’ll find cases (sleeves) for iPad, iPad mini, iPhone, Kindle Fire and laptops. I don’t know if custom orders for other devices are allowed. Everything in the store is very cute. Did I mention the cute?

Material and Quality

The case is made of  2mm dark gray and tan felt. Thick enough to offer some drop protection but not a lot. It’s soft, won’t scratch your iPad or other device and durable enough for average use. My only concern is at the closure point on the back.

Angry Ninja iPad Mini case closure

It has a Velcro closure and I’m wondering if over time the area around the closure may wear out or even tear. The Velcro is attached firmly (stitched on) but the area around it is not reinforced.

The case is handmade and the cut and stitching is perfect. I inspected my case closely and could not find one flaw. It’s very well made and the item very closely resembles the pictures in the Estsy shop.

The iPad mini fits snugly but might slide out if the closure tab is not fastened. There is no opening at the bottom to allow for charging while the device is in the case. You can simply put the device in the case upside down (other way around?) so you can charge your device in the case but you’ll have to leave the closure tab open while charging.

Shipping Time

These cases are made to order and they are shipped from Australia so allow for a few weeks for production and shipping time, especially if you’re ordering one for an occasion or a gift. I placed my order on November 17 and I got shipment notification on November 29th. I received my case on December 8th. So exactly three weeks from order to delivery.

Shipping cost was only $6.50 from Australia to the US.

My iPad mini case was $44.95. I know some of you may cringe at the cost for a case but this was a treat, it’s well made and it’s cute.

Final Verdict

You can get other cases and sleeves made of more durable materials for around the same price, but I’m happy with the case. I like that it’s hand made and it’s darn cute. I would definitely purchase from this seller again.
