Guys, this month. It was a rough one. Things should be settling down, so hopefully I can jump back on my reading and reviewing schedule. In the mean time, here is what I read before craziness set in the last couple weeks of July.
WHAT I READ IN JULY:
Overtaken by K.F. Breene – AMZ
Reunited with her people, Shanti knows that she must make a move in order to finally put her duty to rest. But as always, Xandre is one step ahead of her.
For one brief moment when she lets down her guard, Shanti falls into enemy hands. But if Xandre thought she would be a docile prisoner, he was sadly mistaken.
With Shanti running interference, it is up to the boys she has trained, and the army Cayan leads, to fight their way to her side.
The fate of the land will finally be decided.
Which side will be overtaken?
I had high expectations for the finale in this series. I wanted to see Shanti kill the big bad, I wanted Cayan to do what Cayan does best and that’s stand by Shanti and use all that mind power to help her beat back the enemy. Also, I didn’t want any of my favorites to get killed in the process. And I finally wanted to find out what the heck was the big deal with Xandre. Mostly, I was satisfied. For some reason it took me a while to get into this book and it wasn’t until toward the middle that I really became engaged. Sounds weird huh? Especially since I read the first five or so books one right after another. Was I happy with how it ended? Yes. Was I also glad I got a bonus epilogue on the author’s website? Absolutely, yes.
Verdict: This series is worth the read for fans of Fantasy with romantic elements.
Barbarian’s Tease by Ruby Dixon – AMZ
It should have been a one-night stand.
I never intended to seduce Taushen, but things happened. I don’t dwell on the past and while it was great, I’m not looking for a relationship. Of course, try telling that to Taushen. The big blue alien’s in love after one night, and it’s making things darn awkward. We’ve got bigger problems than whether or not I’m his woman, like the ‘cargo’ of the space ship that landed here.
But Taushen’s not giving up. He thinks I’m his mate.
And he’ll do anything to keep me.
I’m always up for a Ruby Dixon Barbarian book, it’s no secret. So of course I had to jump on this book as soon as it hit Amazon. I mean this is the last tribe member to find his mate and I had to know what happened between them in the last book that would cause them to be so pissed at each other.
Now I’m wondering what is up with all these new people who were just woken up from the pods and if any of them will be joining couples already established or if this author plans to crash-land a prison ship with some new dudes on the ice world in order to give them single, viable romance options.
Verdict: I’m so intrigued to see where Ms. Dixon takes this series next.
Shifter’s Shadow by Ella Summers – AMZ
Next to the powers of heaven and hell, we are nothing.
“So this was just one gigantic, cosmic war between light and dark magic. And we were only a small part of it, a tiny dot in the gods’ empire. It was no wonder that they saw us as insignificant.”
Tested by the gods, Leda and her angelic mate Nero venture into the City of Ashes, a fallen fortress in the Western Wilderness where nightmarish monsters reign supreme and an ancient secret is buried. To survive the Gods’ Trials, they will have to save the city—and they will have to do it without their magic.
Their victory, however, comes at a heavy price. And the secret they uncover will upset the balance of power between Earth and heaven.
Shifter’s Shadow is the fifth book in the Legion of Angels series.
The Legion of Angels series Vampire’s Kiss Witch’s Cauldron Siren’s Song Dragon’s Storm Shifter’s Shadow Book 6 [coming soon]
Now that I’ve come this far I can’t seem to stop reading. This is the fifth book in the Legion of Angels series and I’m thankful that not only is Leda getting less irritating, I mean she does seem to use humor at some of the worst moments, but I think I’m getting used to it, but also that Nero isn’t as much as a hard ass and I’m really starting to dig them as a couple. I also liked that this author is deepening the mystery of where Leda’s brother disappeared to by throwing in the possibility that Nero’s mother is still alive and they might have been taken by the same all-powerful group of supernatural beings.
Verdict: I’m going to keep reading.
Forbidden Bite by Cynthia Eden – AMZ
“Don’t look into her eyes. If you do, she’ll take your soul.”
Werewolf Griffin Romeo has new prey—a sexy female vamp named Isabella has been hunting in Sin City, and it’s Griffin’s job to stop her. Tracking Isabella is easy work for an alpha wolf, but once he gets close to gorgeous Isabella…Griffin’s careful plans go straight to hell. Because with one bite, he’s absolutely hooked on her, lost…mated.
Vamps and werewolves are supposed to be sworn enemies. They aren’t supposed to feel a white-hot attraction that burns soul deep. Now that he’s found his mate, Griffin isn’t about to let Isabella go, especially not when he learns that Isabella isn’t the killer who is attacking humans in Vegas. Griffin’s mate has been set-up, and he’ll fight with a wolf’s fury to find the enemy who is working against them both. Someone wants Isabella to be judged guilty by the wolves in Vegas, but Griffin won’t let that happen.
Their mating may be forbidden, but Griffin and Isabella are about to show the paranormal world just how fiercely a vamp and werewolf can fight for each other—because mates bond forever. And nothing will come between them.
This was a quick, sexy PNR read. Not to deep, easy to get into, and lots of insta mates sexy times.
Verdict: You can’t go wrong with a Cynthia Eden PNR. I kind of hope she makes this a series now that the Bad Things series is over.
Fused in Fire by K.F. Breene – AMZ
The exciting continuation of the #1 Bestseller by USA Today Bestselling author, K.F. Breene!
I thought the threat from Seattle was finished. That we showed up in time and took care of business.
I hate being wrong. It really ruins my day.
When Roger, the alpha of the North American pack, shows up at my door with the news that a demon has made it to the Underworld with knowledge of me, some hard decisions have to be made.
Do I stay above ground, with all my magical friends, and wait for the battle to come to me? Or do I seek the demon out, and pluck the threat out by the root?
I don’t want my friends to die on my behalf. I could never life with myself. But if I venture into the Underworld, it’ll be the most perilous journey of my life.
This time, it isn’t just my life hanging in the balance, it is my eternity.
Hmmm…. I didn’t love this one as much as I did the first two books in the series. I’m not exactly sure why. It took me a while to really get into the whole trip to the Demon realm to eliminate the beings who know Reagan is the heir storyline. Two of my favorite characters, Callie and Dizzy, get left behind, and it’s just Reagan and Darius from about 30% on, and while I like seeing them work together and kick ass, I missed their mage friends and the rest of the secondary characters I’ve gotten to know. Nevertheless, I’m glad that this author plans to carry on in this world with other characters and storylines. I’m kind of hoping to see more Vlad and actually having some more page time with Lucifer.
Verdict: Let’s see what comes next.
WHAT’S UP NEXT:
Tease by Ella Frank – AMZ
Tease – verb: to tantalize especially by arousing desire or curiosity often without intending to satisfy it….unless your name is Tate Morrison.
It’s been four years since Logan Mitchell walked into Tate’s life and irrevocably changed it. Four years since the sexy as sin lawyer dared him to try, and four years since Tate won his love.
Now, as they approach the next chapter of their lives Logan is determined they won’t end up like many of their friends. Settled. Domestic. Boring. However, that’s easier said than done. With busy careers and working odd hours, finding time for one another is becoming increasingly difficult.
But that sh*t isn’t going to fly with Logan or Tate.
The two of them are determined to compromise to get what it is they want, and what they want is each other.
Tease is the sexy, tantalizing continuation of the two men who stole your heart…and popped your cherry.
JUST started this one and so far 💕

LOL. I know, I know. IT’S HAPPENING NEXT MONTH, I SWEAR.
Beard in Mind by Penny Reid – AMZ
All’s fair in love and auto maintenance.
Beau Winston is the nicest, most accommodating guy in the world. Usually.
Handsome as the devil and twice as charismatic, Beau lives a charmed life as everyone’s favorite Winston Brother. But since his twin decided to leave town, and his other brother hired a stunning human-porcupine hybrid as a replacement mechanic for their auto shop, Beau Winston’s charmed life has gone to hell in a handbasket.
Shelly Sullivan is not nice and is never accommodating. Ever.
She mumbles to herself, but won’t respond when asked a question. She glares at everyone, especially babies. She won’t shake hands with or touch another person, but has no problems cuddling with a dog. And her damn parrot speaks only in curse words.
Beau wants her gone. He wants her out of his auto shop, out of Tennessee, and out of his life.
The only problem is, learning why this porcupine wears her coat of spikes opens a Pandora’s box of complexity—exquisite, tempting, heartbreaking complexity—and Beau Winston soon discovers being nice and accommodating might mean missing out on what matters most.
Have I ever mentioned how much I love the Penny Reid’s Winston Brothers? Because I love them so much. ❤
