So I let the month of December get away from me. Between Christmas, birthdays (the male offspring turned the big 16) and every man, woman, and child in my area coming into my salon to get a new do for a party or celebration I got ridiculously behind. I had the thought that I would get all caught up on my off weekend after the holiday. But, HAHAHAHA, um no that didn’t happen. But I’ve still got a few good books to rec which means MINI REVIEW TIME!
After reading Sutphin Boulevard I couldn’t wait for Ray’s story. I was even more excited when I heard he was being paired with David. This is a friends to lovers, opposites attract love story with just about the hottest “let me help you out with that bi-curiosity thing” scene ever. Ever. That first kiss? Yesssssss. There were a couple of times I wanted to smack David upside his head, but all in all I fell head over heals for this couple and am very much looking forward to the next book in the series.
A hint of a smile danced on his lips. “Oh, is that your opinion?”
“Yeah. It is. So just let me love you and stop being a punk about it.”
Everyone knows how much I adore the Cut & Run series by Abigail Roux, I mean it’s Ty and Zane y’all. They are still one of my favorite couples ever. Nick and Kelly have been so-so for me so far. I don’t know…. there was that kiss Kelly requested of Nick when he wanted to explore his desires and then wham, bam, thank you ma’am they are doing it hard-core, even video taping themselves when they got the chance, and have become a couple. Before I knew it, (and before Ty and Zane which kind of upset me) Nick is asking for Kelly’s hand in marriage. I mean he pretended to not remember it afterwards, but still. Kind of seemed a bit too easy after all the angst and drama of the Ty and Zane saga. Which is where Part & Parcel comes in and gives the whole story on what’s been going on with this couple behind the scenes. I thought it was easy? I was wrong.
Also, for all the fans out there who wanted more information on Sanchez…. here you go. He plays a huge part in bringing not only Nick and Kelly together for good, but forces Sidewinder and Zane into another adventure that will give the group closure. Hardcore fans of this series will not want to miss this one.
“You were always my beacon in a storm. You were always the light calling me to safety, and I was so fucking stupid to say that wasn’t enough for me. To lose that.”
I’m kind of in love with Grace Draven’s fantasy romances so one-clicking this on release day was a no brainer. I had an ARC of Gaslight Hades, which was Ms. Draven’s contribution, but felt I needed to buy the finished product to get the most out of it. I read this book out-of-order because of that insane love just so I could get to her story first. I didn’t even read the blurb beforehand, just jumped right in. Which is why I had no idea this was steampunk. STEAMPUNK! Grace Draven wrote a second chance steampunk romance with a reincarnated hero and a smart heroine who desperately wants to carry on in her father’s engineering footsteps. And it was beyond lovely. So far I believe this is to be a stand-a-lone, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this author decides to venture back into this world in the future.
“I would give all of eternity for one more hour with you,” he said.
Elizabeth Hunter’s contribution to this duology is a novella in her Elemental World series, which I hadn’t read and didn’t know much about. I so adored this tale of doomed love that I immediately went out and one-clicked the first three books. I’m serious, I needed to know more. A Very Proper Monster tells the tale of Tom, a vampire, and the ailing spinster he agrees to wed. It’s sweet, at times heartbreaking, but also quite endearing. I guarantee you’ll be thinking about this love story long after you’ve finished.
“I will never forget this,” he whispered against her lips. “Not a moment. If I live a thousand years, I will never forget this. Do you understand? I will never forget you.”
I’ve come to the conclusion that good guys in romance are my crack. Especially when they meet “the one” and set out to win her over. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed Knox and Ellie. I didn’t even mind Knox’s test toward the end to see if she could tell him and his brother apart. Such a well done NA romance. I’m adding Jen Frederick to my list of must- buy authors in this genre.
The second book in the series, Jockblocked, (how awesome is that title?) is set to release February 11th. Wait till you see the cover, it’s just as delicious as Sacked.
But I can’t stay away from her. If I see her, I think, then she’s still mine. What I told Matty has become the anthem of my life now. Ellie and I will never be done. Our story is a forever one.
I just need to get everyone on that same page with me, including her.
Derek! And Julie! Derek and Julie!
That’s pretty much all the information you need to know, but I’ll throw in that even if you don’t normally read novellas stuck off in the middle of series I definitely suggest you pick this one up. It really is a game changer in this series and at $1.99 an absolute steal. You will enjoy every single word. I promise.
P.S. I’d like to mention that this is listed on GR as Kate Daniels #8.5 and Grey Wolf #1 which means we might (fingers crossed) see more Derek and Julie books in the future.
She rolled her eyes. “You’re not that scary.”
Relief washed through him. He bared his fangs at her, pretending to snarl.
“Ew. Drool. Nothing you do scares me, Derek. Deal with it.”
“I’ll have to try harder then.”
“You do that.”
